Slipped on gravel and must replace the shift lever on an '03 krs. Any advice/cautions before starting?

My K's earlier than yours and I know the shift linkages are different, but when I was last in the shift and linkage area I took off the exhaust heat deflector first to get more room. If the O2 sensor gets in the way and is not siezed in, removing it gives a bit more access. I'm assuming you bent the lot - the first bit at the rubber and the rest back to the gear shaft spline.
