Deal's Gap and Tapaco Lodge again for 2006, Sept 28th - 30th. It won't hold us all, so make plans now!
----
No sign-up sheet . Just reserve a room and be there! If you were there this year and didn't sign up for 2006, call Tapaco NOW before someone else gets your room. Most of us from this year already have a room reserved, so it's not too soon to plan.

Look at a map of North Carolina. At the western edge of the state is Robbinsville.
Deals Gap is north of that about 20 or so miles.

The Gap itself is Rte 129 that runs between N.C. and Tennessee.Deals Gap is
generally accepted as starting t the junction of NC 28 and Rte.129. There's a store
at that junction called Crossroads of Time.

Good luck. If you do make it, have a great trip.

There are more roads than just Deals Gap (Tail of the Dragon) in the area. Great motorcycling abounds. What do you plan to do?

a nice problem

Hi people..

Thanks for the reply.. My problem is a nice one, you may be able to help.. I will bore you with some details to give you background.. I am a Irish rider.. been learning to ride for 20 years or so.. My stable is a 1990 k1 and a 04 r 1200 gs .. between the 2 get the chance to use them for about 15000 miles a year all year round .. mostly for play .. I ride in Ireland mostly but manage to get to UK and mainland europe especially the Alps once or twice a year to pay homage to some great roads.. I have visited the U S A several times but on city breaks with my family . mostly New York .. So recently a chance has come up with a R bike New York rider for a bike swop deal.. I hope to do it at last this Sept /Oct for 7 TO 9 Day time frame .. favour to be returned some time in the future.. So I know where the USA is but just am not sure how to make the best of my time riding there .. I had hoped that My Wife would be able to come with me as it is such a big event and I would like to share it .. but alas because of the school term with my sons and the sitting problems it would bring it looks like I will be going solo.. I like my helmet time on the road on my own .. you know how it is ,stop and go when you want but and the end of the day its nice to recount the days ride with someone.. Failing having a riding buddy or a pillion I thought if there was a event on that I could head to it might be the compromise between riding solo and tyre kicking .. So I have started to trawl the forums for some home turf riders ideas before I book the plane tickets..Your thoughts would be appreciated..

No room at the Inns

I have been trying to get a room in the area for a month and have had no luck. I have tried all the regular places as you have mentioned but can only get on the waiting list. If there is another way to get into one of the Hot spots let me know. How did the fellow get a room so soon as he mentioned he got in yesterday.

Stephen,

If I were in your shoes I'd take the swap. Get on the bike in NYC, ride it to Front Royal, VA and get on Skyline Drive. Continue to follow it south to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Ride the length of the Parkway (a beautiful 469 miles) and then explore western NC (Deals Gap) area as there are many a nice roads including "The Dragon" US 129 and the Cherahala Skyway (NC 143/TN 165).

You will NOT be disappointed.

Finally Got a Room at Topoco. . .

I've been on the waiting list at Topoco Lodge for a few months. Started out at number eight on the list and moved up to number three about two weeks ago. Checked with them again last Friday (9-15) and they were about ready to release rooms that had not been confirmed. They called me back Friday nite and set me up with a cabin that had just become available. Hooray!

I'll see you guys Thursday afternoon.
