Hey folks.

Starting to map out a spring (Later April or May) camping trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Right now the plan is for maybe 4 -5 days ride with wife as pillon. I know lots of places to camp but also want to explore some others. Would most likely do the Parkway from Cherokee NC to Lynchburg VA. (That's a 5 hr ride to begin with and then 2hr to get home). With wife along I tend to look for campgrounds that are a bit quieter, grassier, and bathhouses a bit cleaner. In this trip there may not be a goal of total miles per day but an easy fun day traveling/stopping and then set up camp and have time to explore local stuff. So folks.. give up your gems of places.

Stephen I don't know how to convert the Garmin files to whatever GPS format you use. Check with the members of GPSPassion they can probably help you. I don't know how to do it. Sorry.

Hey Robert,
Great list of places to go , things to do. Ya made me grin big time!
I can only imagine time for that right now. It isn't a complaint but life this year and the next few has evolved to only a few weekends free and vacation time used to do needed things in life. That's part of the reason to plan the camping trip out with advice from others as I can't go on weekends to scout a lot of places out. So thanks for your help!

I look forward to hearing reports and seeing the pix of those great adventures.

Whats the dates in the Spring? I really like the time of year for the fall one but I have to check a schedule. I think I am booked that same weekend Thurs/Sunday. Looking at the other things you have there as well

DGR Spring?

Stephen,
Don't know. Seems the fall is as shown in the link above. Maybe I'm confused and do the THCR and then later on do Deals Gap myself.

The Fall Deals Gap is definitely out as I have am committed 9/24-27 already. The Blue Ridge Parkway up at Peaks of Otter might just be possible. Wife and Daughter are to graduate from NCSU that previous Saturday so have to see how this might fit in. I would guess that decision for lodge rooms has to be done ASAP if not already too late.

So I am impressed with the road miles you have planned out. What do you do that allows such flexibility?

Work vs Riding

Stephen,
I'm 62, a registered Professional Civil Engineer in 5 States, worked 70/80 hour weeks for too long, responsible for all engineering design, etc. of a 100 person engineering firm, accounted for 80% of the profits and I was going crazy. No real life. I was also a Navy Captain in the Reserves (Seabees) and traveled almost every weekend (plus) somewhere in the world, eastward from the Pacific Ocean to Bosnia and all points in between. I had $200 million worth of construction equipment spread throughout the Atlantic and European theaters. I did a 140 days away from home in one year, I actually never knew where all I went because it all looked the same after awhile. I'd wake up someplace do what I came to do, then leave for the next place.
Then I decided there was more to life, sold my share to my partners, didn't make Admiral, and became a one man civil engineering firm 7 years ago. AND I try not to let work interfere with pleasure.
I have been blessed. I have a handful of great clients, none from my old firm, that pay on time and want me on their projects.

Ps I didn't tell you about the 15,000 mile 4CORNERS and IBA NPT (National Parks Tour) silver level award trip. Madawaska, ME; Key West, FL; San Ysidro, CA and Blaine, WA; Plus 90 National Parks/Sites/Monuments, 30 States, and the east and west Canadian Providences, BC and NB. It was a grand adventure! I'll do it again before I go.
