Greetings!

I've been a proud owner of a 2007 K1200GT and have loved every minute of riding it. I've ridden all around the Bay Area and have commuted on it down to Silicon Valley. On various trips, I've gone from San Francisco to Oregon, SF to Phoenix and down to LA countless times. I use my GT as part of the Motorcycle Safety team for the AIDS/Lifecycle and can't get enough of riding it.

That having been said, it's eight years old and has 138K miles on it and like any older vehicle, more and more things are going wrong and it's costing me more and more

I have an opportunity to obtain a 2009 K1300GT. It's only got 9,870 miles on it and it's in excellent condition (verified by the local BMW dealer). They are asking $10,995.

I would consider the K1600, but that darned thing is just too expensive.

Can you folks help me out and let me know what you think? I would love to hear some practical advice.

Thanks.

I had a 2010, great bike. Sounds like a great find, mileage wise. I would make sure all the "campaigns" have been completed on the bike and would work on the price. $10k for a 6 year old bike seems a bit steep.

The low mileage sounds great. The price seems high, especially for a 2009, which is the first year for the K1300GT. Is the price fixed or negotiable? For sale by a dealer or private party?

I would check for recalls and maintenance records. Good luck!

I went from a 2006 to a 2009 and never looked back. I test rode the 1600, but it is too heavy and expensive. My 2009 has had all the recalls and runs great after 6 years. I did have a hesitation in the 3900 rpm band and occasional stalling going from 2nd to 1st. Fixed with a good throttle cleaning and usage of Techron regularly.

Thanks for the great advice. It's currently at the local dealer on consignment. I'll make sure to chat with them about the recalls and maintenance. I figure at less than 10K miles, there should be very few maintenance records.

At 18,000 miles, there will be the expensive valve clearance check along with other maintenance items. There is other work that should be done on a time basis, regardless of mileage, such as brake fluid change. If it has the original tires, then they are at least six years old.
