I had the impression the '03 KRS had a range of 200+ miles. Somewhere around 150-160, the gauge says I'm well under 1/4 tank and then the yellow "you're running on fumes" light comes on. :dunno: Mileage while traveling is coming out somewhere in the 42 MPG range. Input? Comments?

All bikes are different and of course driving technique play a big part in the gas mileage.

I have an 04GT and I always fill my tank to the top. One time (at least so far) I ran out of gas and I had traveled 160 miles. I regularly check my MPG and I have seen between 35 and 44 MPG, and of course it all depends on how soft or hard I am pushing it.

From now on when the trip meter reads 120 miles I start looking for a gas station. Also, when I am going on a long trip I pack a small 1 gallon gas can in the right bag and that gives me the piece of mind that I have at least 33 additional miles if needed :)

Agreed that how hard the "loud handle" is twisted makes a difference in range and MPG. It sounds as though the approximately 160 mile range I'm seeing isn't too far off, then.

The low fuel light on my 02 K1200 RS comes on between 160-180 miles. I wish it was closer to 200 before I had to start looking but I can't change that!

The reserve fuel light on my 2004 K1200GT comes on around 170-175 highway miles only. City miles it comes on around 150. It has approximately 1.2 gallons in the tank at this point. I get around 46 mpg highway that is 216- 221 miles to run out of gas. I get around 40 mpg city that is approx 190 miles until it runs out of gas.

I've gone 200 highway miles before refueling. That left me with less than 1/2 gallon in the tank.

FWIW, I just gassed up while doing a test ride after pulling the tupperware to add support for a 2610 GPS, add a Battery Tender connector, and replace the shot-up grips. Oh, yeah, and replace the quick disconnects after one broke. That involved siphoning gas out of the tank, replacing the fittings, and dumping the gas back in. The last tank was pretty much burned on local rides in moderate traffic. The mileage worked out to 40.310344827586206896551724137931 MPG. ;)

Be glad you are on the upper side of the spread on gas mileage. Typically out of tank of gas I am filling up at 160 miles. Like comes on from 140s to about 165. I feel comfortable enough to ride 25-30 miles beyond that if I know where a gas station is at. The needle on my bike will sink to the low side of empty when I take about 4.8 to fill it back up. My general mileage is about 37. If I can be on the interstate for a whole tank it runs about 40. Pushing it in the mountains or riding in city stuff a lot is about 35. Worst was about 20 when doing some track days. If I could regularly get 40 mpg on my daily commute.. 40+ miles each way, 35 of those on slab at 70 or so, I could do two days on a tank including the few errands along the way.

Have had two of these bikes and I have deliberately run them out of fuel. Both recorded the same reading which I have in my file. (light on at 288 k's. Bike stopped 74 k on at 362k's.)

Half tank mark is about 180 k's. But with optimum conditions such as a following breeze I figure I would get 400 kilometres at 110 kph. It varies. I sat on 180- 200 for six hours once and did not pass a petrol pump. The bugs felt like rocks and a crow felt like a blue stone pitcher.

Fuel range/mpg K1300S

I have had my S for four months and 7500 miles. My low has been 37.1 and my high has been 51.8 with an average of 44.2 mpg. Typically the yellow triangle comes on at 150-180 miles with 45-50 miles left on the register.
At 0-5 miles left I put in 4.2 gallons. I have repeatedly run 20 miles past 0 (while carrying a quart and a half reserve bottle). At that point I have put in 4.75 gallons.
My best to date has been 225 miles, but typically get over 200 before filling up.
Most of my driving is rural with some mixed towns. The cycle seems to like running 4-5000 rpm, I get consistently 45-47 mpg. In a city with lots of traffic, it drops to 41-43 mpg. And of course, out playing hard, 37-40 mpg. :thumb:

I always need gas around 190 to 200 miles. This means the light has been on for about 20 miles. I know for a fact that if I let the needle go down as far as it will go I still have about 40 miles left before it stops.
