Uh oh... an oil thread.

Can anyone recommend a good gearbox oil for my '87 K100? I drained it about 400 miles ago and it obviously had moisture in it (been covered in another thread). I drained it out and replaced with El Cheapo 80-90W oil with the expectation of replacing that within the next 200 miles and seeing if the water has been minimized. I bought Red Line Heavy Shockproof which is rated at 75-250W but I've seen some things written that the Heavy is too thick for the box, but good for the rear drive. The shifting has been notchy, so I'm guessing a good moly additive is recommended. Anybody want to chime in and say what they've had success with? Thanks.

I would say to flush it a couple more times with El Cheapo then use Mobil 1 75W/90!

Drained the gbox at 24K and decided to give Mobil 1 75W/90 a try. For reasons unknown to me, the thing seems to shift a lot smoother now. :thumb:
