On and off for the past two years I kept thinking about buying a GT. And the whole time I was under the impression that these things only came in BLUE and GREEN. Now that I have purchased one and have been all over the net looking around I see that there are RED ones and SILVER ones. And, they seem to all be on the west coast. Did I miss something or are they being painted. Just thought I would ask. I ended up with a BLUE one and I like it.

Thanks
Ben

BMW changes the color selection from year to year.

I think the '05 is silver and green. But you have to drive way north into canadaland if you want one, they never where imported to the US.

they're around....

I was fortunate enough to find a red one on the showroom floor..... didn't even know they existed. But they do, or did... only 2004 models I believe. I'm not sure of the exact production numbers, but I thought it was something like 250 ?

I think the silver ones are 2005's, only in Canada.

As you guys were saying about the 05s. When I inquired about buying a new GT at the dealer in my area, he told me that the GTs were discontinued for 05 and that there were only 04s left in the warehouses if I wanted one. Then I see posts around saying about 05s and I wonder if there really are ones or are they 04s just registered in 05. Thanks for the info.

As far as I know there aren't any 05's in the US, just leftover 04's. I'm pretty sure they had the silver 05 in Canada, but don't know about any other countries.

The 05 is available outside the US like here in Canada and Britain (check their website). There are subtle differences between the 05 and 04 such as an ambient temperature gauge.

In Canada GTs are available in Titan Silver and Orient Blue only.

'04/'05 K1200

I do know '05 RS/GT's were not available in US. I bought one of the last of the handful of '04's in CA. Not to say there aren't any more sitting in some showroom collecting dust. But interesting, I have heard of the Silver color being available, yet never seen one. Must be in the other markets.

Just bought my KRS a week ago. I hesitated to buy the Capri blue, but no color choice left. I'm starting to like the color now.:)

GT colors.....

Yeh, I was told (originally) that the GT only came in blue and green. Then I mentioned to dealer that it seemed strange as I had just sat on a RED one the week before in Florida.
I had a RED one in my garage a month later.

Spotted a red GT

I have a 04 K1200RS thats red so I am always on the look out for the same color an model. II was out for a spin and come across a red GT parked in a town along the Delaware River . I stopped to check it out and it turns out to be a red K1200GT with like 600 or so miles on it so it must be new. I didn't realise they were making new reds. I would imagine its new since the miles are so low. Anyway thats my 2 bits.

Hey what is a ambient temperature gauge and why was that changed from 04 to 05. Since I have a 04, what am I missing.

It's a gauge that shows the temperature in the immediate vicinity. My 05 has a button marked BC on the right handlebar. Pressing it switches the display from the time to the temp and vice versa.

The temp. gauge would be nice. I have had them on other bikes and found them to be a nice feature. I just purchased one from Santa Cruz BMW that fits in the cap on the steering yoke. I know that it may not be as acurate as the ambient one offered from the factory since it sits in the open visable to the sun but, I still like to see what the temp. is. By the way that factory silver is really nice. It looks great on a GT. The gauge from S.C is I believe $65.00.

Take care

I got a new red 04 GT in Raleigh, NC so they're not just on the west coast. I got some body damage that needed to be repaired and just wanted to know how much the parts would cost. Red covers were not even in the price book. I've never run into another red one on the road or at the dealer. I guess they didn't make too many.

I wonder if there are any stats around saying how many RSs GTs etc were imported to the US and Canada?

Ben,

The dealer gave you good info. There are no '05 RS nor GT's in the USA. There were a few red '04 GT's, very few.
