The GT sways violently in strong cross winds on the highway. I was on my way to the coast, doing about 90-100mph and the bike would just not cut through the wind. I get pushed back and the bike would sway dangerously from left to right. So as a precuation, I just slowed down to about 70mph and kept in the middle lane. It was terrifying and felt like I was going to flip through the wind. I even tried moving the windshield to different positions.

I'm wondering if this is because the GT doesn't have very good air-flow management and the fairing being really big. Not very aerodynamic.

Steady winds? Gusty winds? 20MPH winds? 60MPH winds?

If my GL1800 is virtually unaffected by wind I can't see how the GT would be worse. The only think I notice on my Wing is worse mileage and noise with a headwind.

They were kinda steady winds. Why did it sway?

The GT has sopme of the best airflow management of any bike I have ridden - bettered only by my K1200S. Here in Colorado, it is not uncommon to have 50-75mph crosswinds. My GT has never swayed 'violently' or 'dangerously'. Because it presents a fairly solid profile to side winds, it is affected by them. I find the GTs reaction to crosswinds to be very similar to that of the K1200RS/GT, K1200LT and many other similarly faired bikes. As a matter of fact the suspension on my new GT makes it a little easier to deal with crosswinds than most bikes I have ridden previously. I have ridden a FJR1300, ST1300, GoldWing and a dressed Harley in similar crosswinds and find the new GT to be much better in those conditions.

From your previous posts, it sounds like you are trying to find reasons NOT to buy a K1200GT - I think you may have found a good reason.

While the GL1800 is much better than the GL1500 it is still affected by crosswinds. I find the GT to be slightly better than my K1200LT, which was slightly better than the last GL1800 I rode, which was much better than my '95 GL1500.

Sunny...

Seriously now. You were on a very powerful demo/unfamiliar motorcycle, racing Porches and doing 90-100 mph in strong crosswinds. If you think of that as normal behavior, it might be that you have been posting to the wrong website. I don't think you'll get much encouragement for that kind of activity here.

I'm not talking about my race with the porsche, neither am I seeking any encouragement. I make my own decisions. I just wanted to let people know how the race got on. Now this post about the GT swaying in sidewinds is a different subject matter altogether. Do you see any reference to the porsche race in this post? I think not!

Sunny, Did you buy a GT or borrow one for this ride? Because a couple of days ago, you were still tring to decide which bike to buy. "Wanted: FJR1300A, K1200GT or Concours14. Forum decides!" No disrespect; just tring to understand.

It was a demo bike from my local bmw dealer.

How does it handle in calm conditions?
I ride in Kansas where the wind always blows so I don't know how to ride without compensating for cross winds, I am afraid I might fall down if the wind stopped.
It is so windy here the local airport has to make it's wind socks out of chain.
