This may not be news to some, but I am pretty pleased with the decision that I made to pull the handlebars/controls back slightly by using the Heli product for the GT. I ordered it on a Sunday (via their website) and it was on my doorstep on Thursday. The installation was relatively simple other than it was awkward to hold the bars in position and tighten the screws at the same time. If I had another set of hands, this would have been much easier. There is no interference with the tank as I turn the bars from left to right and no manipulation of any of the cables was necessary. I also use a Garmin 2730 mounted on the bars with the BMW mount and this was also a non-issue.
I'm a shorter guy at 5'6" and the extra little reach on the bars while riding was extremely comfortable. I used to experience some numbness on the left hand if I held it steady for a long time period and this seems to be eliminated. Although I felt very comfortable and upright while riding, the jury is still out as to butt sorness. After riding for about 350 miles this past weekend, my butt felt better in the saddle, but the chief complaint of sore ass bones was not gone completely.
I admit that I wasn't pleased with the approximately $200 to pay for a piece of milled metal, but now that I've ridden with it, I'm happy that I made the move. For those who are considered vertically challenged or like a more upright touring position, this really is a great product.

I have been waiting to hear from someone who has made this mod before I pulled the trigger myself. I am going to order mine now. I think that it will help the cramping I get in the heel/outside of my hand that I get from resting too much weight on my hands.

Thanks!

I also questioned ordering the Heli Bars and decided to go ahead with it when I took my bike in to have the Navigator III installed last Saturday. I had read some good reviews of their product and talked to Harry at Heli Modified in Maine before I ordered. He assured me that there would be no problem with the cables or the GPS unit. Their website shows a GT with a GPS unit installed. They will accept returns up to 30 days if you are not satisfied with the Heli Bars.

I am planning a long trip on my bike next month and I am looking forward to giving them a try on an extended ride. So far, I have put around 150 miles on since installing them and I am pretty happy. Next, the seat! I will report again after my trip.

In addition to making the bike more comfortable for long distance riding, the Heli relocation piece for the GT has to holes drilled for ram ball mounts. I use the BMW mount for my Garmin 2720, but I hung my XM radio on one of the ram ball mounts and it is a great feature.
