Hello! Is it possible to create a K1300R Sport?

I'm a new rider and user on this site, and aspire to own one of these fine bikes one day. Currently I have a 1985 K100RS, only bike I've ever owned. It is a joy to ride, but as much as it pains me to say (especially after only a few months of riding) I've already got my sights set on a K1300 as my second bike. I plan to own the K100 for a long while before upgrading though.

Anyway, I have been doing research into the K12/1300, and figure the K1300's mechanical improvements and minor fixes are worth the extra cost to me, as opposed to a K1200.

While researching, I learned about the K1200R Sport. I instantly fell in love with the look of this bike.

So I'm wondering, would it be possible to buy a K1300R from later in the model years, and then buy the K1200R Sport fairings and just bolt them on?

I love the headlight on the R's, but need at least some wind protection so I can tour. If it's not possible I'll likely go with the K1300S.

Thanks for any insight! I eagerly look forward to owning one of these bikes, maybe I'll buy it once I've got a good job out of college.

Welcome to the forum. K1300R was never imported to the states, only Canada. There was a guy in Florida selling a Canadian one. If you live in California, don't buy it. Find a clean low miles K1300S and you will be happy. Fairings are different between K12 and K13 bikes, they will be hard to exchange. There are 13's with luggage out there. Don't jump on the first one, look around for a bit. When you find one, come back to this thread and let us know.
I cannot imagine using a k1x00 engined bike without a fairing.
Glorious comfort vs. Buffeting and fatigue.

The upgrade from the older bike to new will blow your mind.

As the other poster said, there was no US Spec K1300R unfortunately. But the good news is, if you're truly in love with the R-Sport you can absolutely make one yourself. I just finished converting a US-spec K1300S into a K1300R, everything bolts on, and it's definitely possible to make yourself a K1300R-sport. Be prepared, there's a lot of expense in doing such a conversion. Beyond the obvious body panels, you'll need to swap fuel tanks, oil coolers, the brackets around the headlight, the brackets for the rear of the bike, rear grab handles and more. You can get most of the K13-specific stuff used from Europe and a lot of it is the same as the K12R, so you can find a lot of used parts domestically. You'll need a K1300S to start with, a GT would be far more expensive to convert.

Good luck! It's definitely worth it if you're obsessed with the K13R like I am.

Are the R Sport fairing parts still available? I heard they were getting hard to find...
Here are some:

Just curious, why shouldn't I buy that bike if I live in California? Are the homeless gonna steal it in LA?

Might try communicating with him. Some have gone to the trouble to make "gray" vehicles usable in the US.
Yes this is a Gray vehicle. But, even though it made it in Florida, California has super strict regulations and there is a Huge possibility it will not pass the documentation issues there. Even things like not having the OEM pollution system stickers on the seat pan will stop the process.

Seat stickers were available from BMW through MaxBMW, but I believe at least some years are no longer available. This means that the seat pan is a federally mandated piece of equipment?

A print shop maybe.??
I believe it would be tough to forge. A specific material. White on black background with adhesive backing. Haven't removed one, but may have a foil backing.
Easiest, if you can remove them is to run a thread for people looking to swap labels or maybe seats to get the correct label with a cycle. BTW, the same USA labels are listed in the K1300R parts as in the K1300S for years through 2015. ?????
Beech probably has enough spares to run "Rent-A-Seat"🤣

Hi IroncladK100.. My first BMW was an 1986 K100 ( serial number 00599 )
Added a few modifications to get to perform better. Rode it HARD for 6yrs it never let me down. Now many years later I have a K1300R and all I can say is " Fuck yeah " And again doing a few mods ... you can always make them better.
Cheers Egor
Hi Tii741,
How did you deal with the air intake mod with the change from S to R as the S has twin air intake ??
Cheers Egor
