How Can I transfer the music from my Ipod to Itunes without losing it. I have heard that there is a program to do so but where or how can I buy it?

I had everything in my computer stored but it crashed and I replaced it now the songs are in the IPOD and I don't want to go to every song to copy it again from CD to ITunes.

there is a program called ipod hacks that will allow you to do that. Essentially you change your ipod from an mp3 player to an external hard drive. You can do this with your ipod with macs software but then you can not play music. Ipod hacks will let you play music and use it as an external hard drive.

The new software overwrites macs software. What I have not been able to determine is if the new software deletes the music currently on the ipod. Everyone I know who has used the software installs it from the beginning.

Alas I am in the same boat as you and dont want to risk my 10 gig of music.

Looks like they have new software called anapod

To use the iPod as virtual hard disk, try reading this tutorial.

Also check out the "AllThingsiPod" forums for specific info and help on your model of iPod.

I would suggest that if you already have iTunes installed and set to automatically open and sync when your iPod is connected that you uninstall iTunes then re-install iTunes (with an updated version if available). During the set-up tell iTunes you want to manage your music yourself and do not open automatically when an iPod is connected. That way iTunes won't try to sync automatically with your iPod and erase your tunes before you can do what is suggested in the tutorial.

Good Luck.

How/Where to backup your mp3's? Buy an external hard drive... memory is so cheap these days it is obsurd. I bought a 80GB Western Digital drive for like $50 and I keep all my music and other media backed up monthly on it.

ipod Backup

I really like a program called Xplay 3 by MediaFour. I was able to make an exact copy of my ipod. My wife and I share a computer and the itunes on it has a lot of her music on it. I have my entire music collection exactly the way I like it on my ipod and was able to create a copy of it as a back up. I use a Mac computer and the software only works on a PC. But it works equally well with a Mac or Pc formatted ipod. I just used a neighbors computer and an external portable hard drive. The software does everything for you just drop and drag. You don't have to be computer savvy or an engineer.
