So, the big BMW promotion in January that releases the S1000RR to the public is coming up. That's when the dealers will get the keys to the bikes that have arrived but can't be started ... except for some clever folks that got the VIN, called New Jersey parts people to get a duplicate key, and the duplicate went out. That opportunity has been closed, but there may be a few on the street prior to the official release date.
Rumor is Max stepped into a bunch of corporate poo on that one - especially after they posted the video of their S1000RR running on a dyno on Youtube (which also got pulled shortly afterwards). Was funny though... :rotf:
BMW just want to make sure that all dealerships get the bikes at the 'same time'. It's much easier to control the key distribution than to try to time the delivery.
It's not just another new bike. It is a historic launch for BMW and they want to do it simultaneously. I don't think it's retarded at all. The way I see it, what's another week or two after a year of wait? It's all just for a bragging right?
I do applaud at whoever thought about it. It's brilliant.

Ok, I'll give them credit for creative thinking, but who cares?
Brilliant to me will be a new bike released by BMW without defects. That will be a real attention getter to me and a signal that the design and production quality is returning to an acceptable level.

But yeah, I agree with you. It would be a BMW first if this thing doesn't puke parts or run like a sick dog out of the box. Hopefully, this pre-tested (past year or two) thing will be flawless and they've learned their lesson.
Here in the white North all the key gets you is to hear it idle. No demo rides and just more whining because you wouldn't even want to venture out with your own bike.
Even with our January thaw this week there is too much crap on the roads, and it screws up the skiing. So now I can whine twice as much. Can't do either fun sport.
Oh well 39F yesterday, and the teens for Thursday. Out to the barn to make motor noises.
Then tune the skiis because it will be noisy powder (aka ice) on the slopes.
BMW club meeting this saturday, already have an invite to test ride the demo.
I am supposed to be waiting for the Strada, but . . . . . .
Wish we had it at a track, no brainer then. Hoping all the electronics measure up, and then everyone else will have to come with them soon.
