I need some help with ear plugs. I'm always wearing something, but have not found something great for riding.
I have been using straight forward disposable plugs for my interstate rides.
I've been using these for music, and the gym

These for long highway rides, and in bed in NYC

And these for mixed or city driving, and the shooting range

I don't like to wear foam ear plugs in NYC because the cabby's drive like maniacs, but I need something. When I hop on the FDR or the west side highway I'm hitting a pretty good clip, and the wind noise becomes significant.

What do you guys use, and what do you think might work for me?

I've got custom fitted earplugs and in-ear speakers from Big Ear and they're great. I can hear my ipod easily when using the speakers and the earplugs work great at blocking wind noise. I use the speakers most often because I have my music playing when I ride, but for short trips I usually just use the earplugs.

I use the custom speakers molded from "now hear this". I now use them on airplanes with my ipod or the airplanes movie/music channel. Cuts all the wind and engine noise. Best investment for $220.00

Sensaphonics is a good company. I have a set (for aviation).

I also dropped a pile of money on Ultimate Ears custom molded headphones. I'm glad I spent the money. Great sound quality at a much much lower volume, while blocking road noise.

Custom fitted are the best, once you try them, and see how different they can be in size from one ear to the other........Expensive but worth every penny! :thumb:
I have to sleep over a generator at work on a ship, akin as sleeping on the hood of an idling tractor.
I've tried everything else I could put my hands on over 20 years......bought some custon fitted and Wow! I should have done that many years ago, I almost failed my last hearing test! :(
And most of the cheap ones will irritate your ear canal, eventually giving you that very unpleasant infection called " Swimmer's Ear" (Otitis externa) :yeow:

And BTW they are great for riding, they have a somewhat large external area, NO wind noises whatsoever. :thumb:

I know this is an old thread but I was intrigued at first because I also use earplugs even though their basically illegal to use while driving any vehicle. I play for an experimental metal band and I've had some trouble with my ears a few months ago.
is what I use in band rehearsals and also while riding my bike. It's actually worth every penny because I use them whenever I need to. Here's the link to their website if you wanna check their other products out. https://www.bigearinc.com/
