Hello! Joe here. I just joined after having owned my orange 2009 K1300s for about a year now. Loving it!

I joined today because a plastic cover panel on my right side front mirror assembly “went missing”, and I’m hoping to avoid purchasing the whole OEM assembly new on the odd chance that someone here has got just the bit I need. I posted to the classified forum just now, please take a look at that post if you think you might have what I’m looking for:

Bacground. I’m a veteran rider, (see below for details on that). Maintenance-wise, I do tires, brakes, final drive maintenance, oil changes, crash repairs, and accessory installations on my bikes. I like to have major service done by the pros to support local shops and also just to have the peace of mind that someone other than just me has gone over it once in a while.

I commute 5 days a week across the lovely San Francisco bay bridge from my home in the hills of Oakland. I do ~12 full day excursions a year, a lot of weekend canyon carving and occasionally a longer ride. My wife will tolerate 3-5 hours as a passenger once every 2 years. The way I ride, I can’t fault her for that!

You should be able to pick up the whole thing on eBay for 20 or 30 bucks. I doubt you find just the front cover. I got rid of the mirrors altogether and assembled my own rear view camera setup. Got a waterproof 5" monitor and Sony 160 degree camera very reasonable on Alibaba. The most work was making up the drastically shorter cables; had to learn how to mico-solder a 12 post watertight connector. I fabed up the mounts out of sheet stainless and made a pair of nice alum filler Pieces to go in the holes in the fairing.

The reason I went to all the trouble to make my own setup was:
1) The cost of a kit with a watertight 5" monitor is like $800. The monitor I found on Alibaba was like $120. and the camera was about $60.
2) You still have to cut 6 or 7 ft. out of the cable because nobody makes the setup for a bike with less then 10 ft. of cable that you have to wad up in a corner somewhere. I don't like that shit and won't do it so had to splice in the 12 point connector.

I did that work 2 years ago and it's still working fine and it gets rid of the donkey eared mirrors sticking out of your front fairing.

The only reason I mention all this is that I see you are a guy who actually works on his own stuff and might like to try something a little unique. I've been on scooters since the '50s, do all my own work; machining, welding, painting, you name it.
Welcome aboard.

Thanks @SpaceViking - I guess I was hoping for a simple undo - you know, when you mess up in a stupid way, and then you just type command-z and poof, everything goes back to the pristine way it was before? :D

I wonder how those no-name imported LED rear views I'm seeing on eBay look on the bike and perform, in practice. Anyone on the board have experience with any of these?

Regarding your cool electronic rearview camera setup - that sounds amazing. I am totally happy with the stock mirrors frankly, and have too many projects going on to add another one right now to seriously consider it. Still, if you haven't shared the build it would be great to see some photos of how it came together.

OaklandJoe, I didn't get a chance to take pictures of the Rear View Camera setup until now. It's been a long time since I posted pictures here and thought there was a paper clip icon to post them with but I guess not. Win. 10 is such a God damned pain in the ass I doubt I can get back here to Paste the shots if I try to copy them from my Win Picture folder. Maybe I'll have the patience for Win 10 in another life.
