Did you compare?

Did you test ride the S bike and R bike and choose this over the S, or was the R bike your objective regardless?
Nice!

And the new site ROCKS! I gotta find my avitar and sig now.

I initially was going to buy the R1100S, -saw this bike on the dealer floor, said wait a minute... this thing looks like it might do, rest was history. Im glad I chose K12R
Nice looking machine! What is the riding position like (k1200gt, k1200rs, r1150r...)?

Tnx, I heard the riding position is slightly more upright than the K12S, it does have a lot more windblast too -intrinsic of a naked bike.
Great bike chip4, but the S is faster.....:) :)

Welcome aboard, hopefully you will feel at home....

Chip4,

Have you considered the sport fly shield? Or do you like getting blasted? I used to get beaten up fighting fires for 24hrs. then ride home 50 miles and get beat up some more.
I'm going to order mine soon and it will have the sport screen.

We cannot get a test ride on the R here at my BMW dealer, we can ride the S but not the R. Not enough of them to have a shop bike I guess.
Thank you

Kjell, and all who helped with this transition thank you for all of your hard work in keeping this community together. Let me know what I can do to help keep things going.

Hey Chip4,

I had an R1100S and traded it on my K12R..

No turning back.

Mine has ABS, ESA, sports wheels and screen. Same colour as yours. I aalso have a Staintune zorst and evoluzione air filters.

Who makes the tail bag mounted on your bike?

Yes I have considered the sports windscreen, I might order this and give it a try.

I still like the R1100S, but this K just has so much more power.

Its actually a tank bag -I know load is better towards the front but I mounted it in the rear because I dont like it getting in the way every fill up, -it took some work but its pretty secure -the way its mounted. Its real convenient for putting a camera, bottle water, sandwich etc for those longer rides.

This is such a nice bike - Had the pleasure to ride for a day or two ;)

I was really positive to how the little windscreen is giving nice coverage for the wind!
At the track it started to slide in a corner and I felt I reached the limit - untill I dicovered the ESA was in Comfort position - after I changed to Sport - didn´t I have the balls to search the sliding point, cause it was moved quite farrrrr

Such a bike could affect the balance of my bankaccount :bmw:

Metzler M1s are for the street and cheep, but Pirelli Diablo Corsa's are for the rich and track..that is all..
Riding position

The riding position must be pretty comfortable. I noticed in Motorcyclist magazine, on the back page where they compare the ergos of a ton of bikes that the K1200R had an effective handle bar rise of 15 inches. That's more than any other bike. Not that handlebar rise is everything but a decent rise is often indicative of how comfortable a position it's going to be for longer rides. I'm going to take one for a spin and see how it compares to my 05 GT.
How are the insurance rates on the K12R?

I currently ride a R1150R, and am considering a switch--but not if the insurance is outrageous.

Thanks!

You can actually order a base for your tank bag designed for seat mounting from Marsee if you're not happy with the setup.
Nice pixs Chip.
The S may be faster but the R is quicker!

Somebody asked me the other day 'how fast?'
Feeling cheeky, I replied 'three times the speed limit'.
End of conversation.
finaly got a ride saturday here in So. Cal. Waited for 3 hours during the open house but it paid off. I got to go ride solo without the "group" that everyone else had to ride with! :D

What a riot to ride although it really has to havea bigger shield somewhere above 100 it gets hard to breathe! ;) Maybe it was the grin and bnot the speed that was happering breathing! It just continually felt like "Let me go come twist it and trun me looase"!
