I just purchased a 2004 K1200GT. Anyone have any suggestions for upgrades? So far I am considering a back rest, comfort seat, PIAA 1100x lights, and maybe a taller windshield.

Various upgrades

Well, on my K1200RS which I recently purchased. I got some chrome instrument rings to brighten up the dash. add a thermometer .. repadded the seat. Add loud horns..and extra tail lights for more visibility. I adjust the handlebars to the lowest postion after trying it for a while..everything fits now...
So far, those are the only mods i made and am very happy with it

So Far.......

I have added the piaa 1100's and a top case from Givi E46. Upgrades the tires to Z6 when it was time and added a Parabellum 25 Screen.

Break !! LEd tail light was also added.

Good Luck

If you spend a penny on anything before you upgrade the shocks, you should be beaten.
You obviously feel strongly about shocks, but even on a brand new bike?

On another topic has anyone sucessfully mounted the PIAA 1100x AND the fiam horns? I have not studied it critically but it appears that they both are intended to go on the same location.

Horns install vs PIAA 1100 mount location

In my opinion this is the wrong place to mount horns if you plan on installing the PIAA lights under oil cooler. Horns can be mounted in center of oil cooler

Picture for dual fiam horns mount under oil cooler where lights would normally go:

My dual Fiam horns mounted dead center under oil cooler with lights connected via Autoswitch (turn signal canell button depressed for 3 sec. will turn on/off lights).

I just went through this last week and you're right. I already had the dual FIAMMs on the bike and Santa brought the PIAAs. The port side light goes where the FIAMMs are mounted. After studying the mounting options for a couple hours (with the nose and port side fairing off) I eventually gave up on the EZY mounts that came with PIAAs and went with the Martin Fabrication mounts. I found the lights get very hot after only a few minutes so the Martin Mount exposes them to more cooling airflow. Thanks to Bandera for posting his pics.

Ok, your horns are under the oil cooler but where are your lights mounted?

Yes. The disc-type Fiamms will fit in the stock horn location and out of the way of the PIAA lamps under the oil cooler.

Be aware that going over bumps with the handlebars turned can result in the top of fender hitting the bottom of the lamps. After reading of others having this problem, I test mounted my lamps under the oil cooler and was able to get it to happen by pushing down on the handlebars while parked.

MotoLights

Motolights. Mounted on the brake calipers. They turn with the front wheel which makes manouvering around a dark parking lot a breeze. They also create a very definite triangular pattern which is quite distinctive. I run mine day or night. They also light up the area of the road that the headlight doesn't cover.
