The current motorcycle lap record of 7:49 is held by Helmut Dähne, riding a street legal Honda VFR750R RC30. Couldn't find a single site that listed best motorcycle times, grrrr!

Have no idea what race times or even if they race bikes round the Nordschliefe, video from one of the locals who knows the circuit well enough to be able to ride it fast.

Only 8 days till I'm there again.

Edit: err video lap is about 7.35s

That is probably the short circuit not the whole Nordschliefe. (seeing as its a good 20s faster than the official record.)

In 7,35 you can run the short F1 circuit.. This is the Nordschleife, but not a whole lap of it. When the circuit is open for everyone, you have to go to the pit on every lap to buy a new ticket,or show your multiple ticket. To lap time a round like this,we use the bridge right after pit to start the clock, and the gantry on the beginning of long straight as stopp. (BTG time) In this case 7,35,that is a good time.My fastest is 8 min,as a passenger in the Zackspeed Viper Taxi,on a saturday with much traffic. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e142/NURBURG-RING/ZAKSPEEDTEAM.jpg
Mr Barth with K12S,7,57, and mr Dahne did full laps.A full lap is almost 2 km longer..

Here are a link of 2 videos of one of the Vipers, doing about 8 min laps

Great topic guys - thanks for the links. This circuit would be "challenging" under good riding conditions but with a mix of dry road and shaded / damp surfaced bends (as I suspect is normal) it would be sooo easy to slide into a not so soft landing. It seems there are a lot of opportunities in Germany (autobarns, road circuits) to open the throttle legally.

To me it does not seem logical to compare the k1200s to a sport bike. The K1200S was not designed for what the R1, GSXR, cbr1000rr and 999S are designed for. The K is an excellent bike, i love mine, but it is not a sport/race bike. It has good power but the weight and the wheelbase are not compatible for top level racing. Take a look at what races in AMA and Motogp, I have never seen a K bike there. Are we thinking that we can beat a sport bike or just interested in how close the the K bikes does? Please help me understand the relevance in the comparison. Thanks.

At Nurburgrig Nordschleife, the K12S is a very compettive bike against the real sportsbikes. There are not held any real bike races there, only fights against other bikes and cars. So mostly everyone are amateurs, and the S is a very easy and steady bike to drive fast with for us normal people, compearing with the R1 and Gixers, that wheelies if you touch the throttle.
Check out this webcam from the inlet of Nurburgring Nordschleife,it is updated every minute(you have to klick update in your browser too). Not long time between the K1200S there..
