Last fill up I used Shell Rotella synthetic. I had been using Mobil 1 motorcycle.

We haven't had a good oil thread in a while. :rotf:

First, just as good as Amsoil
Second, I don't have to join a cult to buy or use it.

Did you guys and/or gals find that switching to synthetic helps the tranny shift smoother?
I drained just the tank and put in sythetic yesterday, just as an experiment, and it sure seems to shift alot smoother and quieter.

Just, IMO, the heavier the oil, quieter the shifts.

I think 20W is too heavy for the bike. I worry about the bearings and cams not getting enough oil quick enough when cranking. Also, I think BMW ended up changing recommendations to 5W oil so that enough oil gets to the clutch to keep it adequately lubricated.

All just opinions.

Man, the shifting is a dream compared to dinosaur oil. I just click the shifter up with my big toe, after preloading, and it usually goes in with very little or no noise. Life is good, and so is the bike.
I have filters on the way and am going to try 10-40 syn. with filter.
