I think some chargers need to sense voltage and/or polarity before they will operate. A drained battery may just stop operation of the charger. Product instructions, commonly avoided, make a difference 😁. Battery Tender requires that you connect to the battery prior to plugging it into an outlet.

Did you reset the throttle after installing the battery? Just a passing thought when you mentioned twisting the throttle.

Hey, Walt. Don't mean to hi-jack the thread but do you have to reset / recalibrate the throttle on a 2004 K1200 when the battery has been replaced?

For lithium batteries, you need either an old dumb charger or one specific to lithium. I prefer Optimate chargers, but the Noco genius chargers are pretty good too. If you use an old dumb charger, like the lunch box sized 2/10 amp chargers you must monitor with a volt meter so you don’t over charge it. The dumb chargers also work to reset a BMS on a lithium battery.

Sorry. I'm not sure. I haven't owned a K1200. It's such an easy task, why not do it until someone that knows about your model offers information?

I've had a lithium battery for some time in my k1300r... Seems to be great. Whatever the root cause is, I don't think it's that the battery is lithium, not in my experience anyway

I think you do deserve a prize, gas was most likely the issue. Just need to monitor that fuel level indicator closely now, could be something wrong there.

This is a little late, but you can fool the newer battery chargers into charging a dead flat battery by hooking up the charger leads and hitting the boost/jump start button for 2-3 seconds maybe 2 or 3 times. This will usually get you enough residual voltage that the charger will go ahead and work on the lowest amp charge setting.
