Would someone please point me at a how-to on installing a heated GT seat or at least go over the wiring and switch changes needed to add a heated seat to a KRS. TNX.

This (attachment) might be of some help. There are other variations, but this one included an LED for the dash.

Heated seat has two elements, low and high. The factory wiring allows for off, low and both.

If you really get fancy, you can get four settings. LED, though, won't be much good.
Real low:Both elements in a series. Ground the low element power side, 12v at the high element power side, ground (brown wire) side left open.
Low: low element 12v, ground on ground wire (brown)
High: High element 12v, ground on ground wire
Highest: 12v on both low and high, ground on ground wire.

The GTseat.doc covers High and Low. Factory uses Highest and low. CABNFVR used Real low and High. No one that I know of went the full Monty, though.

Er, for some reason, I'm unable to open the .doc file - what version of Word was used to make it?

The PDF works - TNX.

I used Word '03 on the DOC - that should have worked. Have you checked the file recently? It may have been chewed on by digital mice while in storage. Word seems to think the file is completely unreadable.

I looked into this a few years ago with my 03RS. I lot of guys were mounting various add-on switches along with a fuse block. I just didn't like the looks or position of the aftermarket switches. Beemerboneyard had a new GT switch assembly. I ordered it for 100, 125 don't remember for sure. The only difference between the RS and GT switch cluster is the heated switch and the 2 or 3 wires that go to it. Except for the extra wires, the wiring harness and plug at the end are the same.
Tupperware removal was a pain but always is. Mounting the handlebar cluster and running the new wiring harness was easy, just ran it the same route as the RS harness. The harness goes to a box full of wires on the right side of the bike. From there I ran new wires to the seat and a fuse block under the seat.
If this becomes an option for you, I'll try to find my wiring diagram.

The wiring diagram is easy to follow but I agree that it leaves a switch and an LED poking out of a piece of tupperware, On my Connie, the same sort of stuff (I added a voltmeter, switch for the driving lights, and a power point) didn't really bother me. On a Beemer... meh... can't say as I'm loving it. Anyway, good point about Beemerboneyard - I just replaced the brake pedal (how that came to need replacement is a story in itself - I'm having serious doubts about the PO) and they were easy to deal with on that.

My original purpose for asking about how to add the GT goes back to the business of adding a control for it. It seems to be a choice of adding a GT switch cluster or poking holes in the tupperware. Now I know. :)

Office 2008 at home, Office for Mac at work. Both opened it up, but in compatibility mode. Saving it as a .pdf seemed to be the best option, as M$ seems to like having folks jump through hoops.

I've done the same thing but unfortunately i'm completely naive when it comes to wiring :confused: should I buy a new wiring harness or should I just splice into the extra wires? I've looked around for a more detailed DIY because while I have a BASIC!!! understanding of wiring diagrams, I'm scared to tear everything apart because i'm really clueless on what to run where... HELP!
