Many of you have asked about why the marker lights aren't illuminated on the K series (I ride an '03 K1200GT). And there is a solution I believe call Run N Lites. But, I wanted an LED solution similar to Lite Buddies, where the LED's are inside of the turn signal housing. Since no one makes one, I did it myself. There are two sets of LED's installed... one facing forward (a pod of 4) and a row of 6 facing 90 degrees to the bike, for side conspicuity when pulling into busy streets (see pics)

I bought the 4-LED "pod" from www.superbrightleds.com ($4.95 each) and took the housing apart (forgot to take pic of what this looks like taken apart). Then I traced the openings of the housing onto the back side of the blinker housing and drilled four holes (pic #1). I pushed the 4-LED's through the holes (pic #3 - view from inside housing) and then super glued (and then duct taped) the unit to the housing (pic #2). I need to take the night pic, but I'm telling you, even with a CQ HID headlamp, these things are bright from the front and very nicely accentuate the HID (see pic #5).

For the side row of 6, I also bought the thing from the same website ($9.95 each). I also took it apart and then made a template using my wife's rubber stamp pad and paper (I dipped the lights then pressed them to the paper showing me where my holes need to be drilled - used a hole punch to punch them out) to drill the holes in the side of the same blinker housing. To get all six to line up perfectly, I had to "adjust" the hole sizes slightly with the drill to get them to lay in there flush. Also superglued and taped this unit on. To get these to mount flush, I had to cut a little metal off of the side of the windshield mount (which I didn't love doing, but did it anyway - see pic #7)... you could probably mount them in the "bottom" of the housing and not need to do this but I aligned them with the center of the bulb down to the point which required a little cutting (I used a Dremel with cut-off wheel) - I like the slightly angled down look of the row of LED's.

Then I added a little harness and wired these two units together, then side to side, then ran the power back to my Centech. Again, these things look amazing on the bike. I will take pics tonight or tomorrow but when I'm pulling onto a street I have total side conspicuity. When the bike is off, you can barely see the LED's through the lens of the marker (see pic #6). And the blinker still works exactly like it did (I could have used the LED's as blinker lights but didn't feel like messing with the resistors so I just left them stock). See pics... this is a sweet setup and as mentioned compliments the HID perfectly.

Pic #4 is side view while pic #5 is front view. If you go to my gallery photos you can see the wiring for the LED's and a couple of other pics. I don't know how to load more than 5 to a post.

Good idea...but your running lights are brighter than your blinkers?

Sorry guys, no pics yet. I checked this weekend and the blinkers are still brighter than the running lights. Because the LED "pod" viewed from the front is just a cluster of 4 LED's, when you turn the blinker on the entire housing lights up and can easily be seen over the LED's. From the side, the same is true. So, although they are really bright, they do not take away from the safety of having the blinker blink. I promise pics in the next couple of days (and maybe a little cellphone vid as well).

Okay, some night pics. This really worked well. They look great at night. Great side visibility and front, even with my HID.
