They moved it to the Rosemont Horizon this year.

Wonder if BMW will be there?

Looks like BMW only made the NY show.

I'm working on Saturday but may try to make it out that PM with my family. Look forward to seeing some bikes that are actually put together. :teeth

I really don't get it!
I'm not any kind of business guy, mechanic is my trade, but , can anyone that has experience with this kind of decision, please explain it to me? :popcorn:
How many dealers are there in the Chicago area, several , I'd suppose?
I just recently set up cars for our local auto show, our dealer took down about 21 cars, 7 from each of three car lines. In this economy , exposure is a good thing, no? When people can touch and feel something it makes it more tangible. Desirable.
I haven't seen the new S1000RR, seen plenty of pictures in mags, not quite the same as real life. Sorry so windy!

While there are a zillion BMW car dealerships in the area, I think there is only one authorized BMW motorcycle dealer.

But I agree that it sells bikes.

Two places got the corporate folks from BMW out, New York (close to BMW NA) and Long Beach (western corporate offices are in Los Angeles). Guy that is the decision maker for BMW marketing apparently thinks the shows are worthless to travel to. Same belief he had when he held the same position at Triumph.

Economy might be the reason for the other brands not showing, but BMW and Triumph have moved away from the motorcycle show (corporate-wise).

I didn't know it was the same guy. It's an advertising write-off for gawds sake!

We had a Triumph dealer in town for maybe 6 months. A buddy and me got a call saying he "Wanted us to ride their bikes around a lot so as to show he was demoing them a lot." Work prevented us from doing it.

Well, he lost the Triumph line and kept the Kawasaki line. A year later he folded shop completely. Kawasaki got a new dealer and went into a new building and lasted about 3 months and then it too folded. They are now resting at a Honda dealership for who knows how long.

Even our local Harley dealership is low on bikes and employees. Fickle business now.

Had I not seen the 3 BMW S1000RR's at the Long Beach show, there may have been the probability that I would not have bought one as the colors seem to grab you plus the commotion they cause among riders seeing them in person. Having a bunch of Yamaha R1 sales guys drooling over them at a distance (they were not allowed on the BMW carpet by someone, probably Yamaha?) adds to the affect. Who knows?

One thing I do know, Ducati sure knows how to put up a hell of a show! If I could fit comfortably onto one of their bikes (Streetfighter has a really awkward right-foot placement against a protruding heat shield - and it surges!) I may have gone there.

Touchy. Feely. Seey, always helps. :)

The Italians seem to understand that riding and driving can be art...not just transportation. :teeth

Triumph exited the CycleWorld shows 3 years ago, and haven't looked back. Triumph is having record years, and even through this economy, they've increased market share in North America.

BMW's 2009 sales also sucked less than the rest of the industry (22% versus 41%), and I'm sure bailing on the CMS didn't hurt. Especially with the budget to launch the S1000RR with a demo bike fleet was money much better spent than a 30x30 booth at the CMS.

Saw the...
VFR1200- looks a little better in person. Lot of foot traffic around it. I have very little interest in it anymore.
S1000RR- if I didn't know how good it was, I wouldn't have given it a second look. Initial impressions are that it looked awkward (nose looks like a beak) and unproportioned (heavy up front). Just an opinion. That HP right next to it was a more handsome bike. That's not gay is it?
Ducati streetfighter- looks good but kinda a let down
Monster- looks good, better in person than in pics
1198/848- damn, what sexy sculpted bikes they are. They had a 1198 Corse with a "bare" aluminum tank.
Yammi R6- saw a "race" bodywork version that was the sexiest bike there by a mile. Perfect proportions. Really pissed I didn't snap a pic of it. The 2010 R6 was just OK.
Confederate- cool.
