I've used ACDelco PF-53 oil filters on my K75 & K100's for years with no complaints, before that I used Fram until they started putting that grippy stuff on them. Anyway, changing oil today I found a 1x2" paper tag on the inside of the filter cover. It had come off the filter, never noticed it before. Peeled the tag off the new one and went on my merry way. Don't think the older ones had tags, just painted labels. Other brands may be doing likewise. Just a friendly heads up. :ricky

I wouldn't be too worried about the label....at least it did not find its way into the internals, but more about what is actually inside some of them aftermarket filters.

Here is what I found inside a PF53 I cut open to see if it could be suitable for my bike.


Don't get me wrong here, I used to like ACDelcos, after all my Dad was a Chevy dealer and I must have installed hundreds of them during my formative youth as a grease monkey, but ACDelco outsourced their filters a few years back and went to a cheap paper cartridge. Here is what the Classic Delco on the left used to look like, I managed to source a couple NOS last year and also cut one open.I even looked at the paper media under magnification over a light table,and....... surprise to me, the OEM Mahle did have quite a few larger "holes" than the classic AC. :confused:


I usually stick to the OEMs, but last month I installed a Mobil 1 (M1-102) filter on my bike, that was either that or a long trip to a dealer, but costwise here in Canada they are only a couple bucks cheaper than an OEM. But they do have a good rating on most of the sites specialized in "Oil & Filter Threads"..... :D Soon I will be cutting that one open too......maybe today if I decide to install my last Classic ACDelco in my bike. :teeth
