Where can I buy an Oddesy gel battery for my 01RS. Understand there are some fitment issues. How much of a problem is it? My 01RS standard batt still lives but is coming up on 5 years old.

Thanks

Why Odyssey?

Is there something special about them? I got a new gel battery for my '01 RS last year at my local dealer (Carolina BMW), but I couldn't tell you the brand.

There is another battery thread going right now about this. One poster said this is a place to get the one you're after:

No maintenance draws me to gel

So bought a BMW gel and the battery tender that goes with it. Odyssey has very high cranking amps, but brick doesn't really need like boxer. Plus some adaptations with Odyssey none with BMW...and thanks for responses....

the ODYSSEY batteries are dry cell batteries and you can find the correct fit at http://www.odysseyfactory.com/default.htm I bought my last one for my K75 from ebay and will soon replace the one on my K12 with one. probably from ebay as well.

Odyssey batteries are a type of AGM battery (NOT dry cell as some believe), that eliminate the need to alloy the lead plates with calcium or antimony to increase their stiffness. Instead, the plates are wound into a cylindrical bandage structure which results in strength without the need for stiffening.

Advantages include FAR lower internal resistance (since pure lead is a better conductor than lead alloys) resulting in greater cranking amps. Also, they have very low self discharge and low gassing as a result of the pure lead plates (no local galvanic couples can form between the lead and the alloying elements).
