Hey,
Got my first BMW and would like to get the oil changed on it. Would like to do it myself. Owners Manual does not tell you how to change it only how to check it.

Anyone have any pointers or "how to" steps they can help me with?

Congrats on the new bike. I just purchased my 03 K1200GT 3 weeks ago. As far as changing oil goes, it's quite easy and straight forward. Just remove the lower fairing (belly pan), keep the screws sorted as a couple of them are of different sizes. I stayed with BMW 20W/50 engine oil and if you buy the BMW filter kit, it comes with new crush gaskets and O-ring. Becareful not to overfill the case. I topped the filter with oil prior to installation. Including the filter oil, the engine took a little over 3.5 qts, just as the manual states, something like 3.7 I believe. Side note, are you still running factory windscreen and seat?

one suggestion

after a quadrillion oil changes, a suggestion. just remove the underside screws and bolts of the bellypan. the front and top ones are a pita, leave them in. the pan will just drop to the ground and u can get an oil pan under there.

And pay attention to.."make sure you reach up and remove oil filter o- ring from flange"...most of the time it stays up there instead of staying on the filter....VERY IMPORTANT!

Thanks Guys......Now...

what about the low beam headlight...Can't seem to get the wire to disconnect from the back of the housing and worried I am going to break it. Again....any suggestions. Owners book states to do one side then the next. Not sure "what" to disconnect....
