I just did an oil change. 3 months to the day, and 6000 miles exactly since the last oil change.

Jesus Christ I’m riding a lot. I was also gone for one fo those 3 months, so in two months I put 6000 miles on the bike.

I switched to 15w-50 oil to hopefully remove some of the buzziness. I hope this doesn’t carry with it some unintended consequence, but it’s approved according to BMW’s “Rider’s Manual”.

This is what I saw in the k1300s riders manual
SAE 5W-40 SAE 10W-50
BMW recommends
Clutch
Clutch design
Engine oil for motorcycles with wet clutch, API SJ / JASO MA2
≥-4 °F (≥-20 °C)
Engine oil for motorcycles with wet clutch, API SJ / JASO MA2
No suggestion of 15w 50 being approved

I wonder if the 15w may be too viscous for cold starts

Early in the K12s production BMW was recommending 15w-40. I thought it was crazy when I bought my bike in may 2005. Once I hit around 20k miles BMW changed the recommendation to 10w. I was so late in the game I stayed with 15w. They also told me about the lifetime differential fluid and the need to change it……..at my 60k mile service. I told them to leave it by then and we will see what lifetime means😲. Recommenations seem to change as they learn more. I would think most k12s’s in the 05 06 years had 15w in them at some point.
