i want to prep and paint the oil pan, and black bottom sides, of my 86 k75 motor. starting to loose a little paint down there. want to keep things black. any tips as to the need to prime, how to prime, and type of paint to use?

Zinc Chromate for primer, trust me on that one, that is THE primer for all them alloys.But do that in a well ventilated space that stuff is fumy and not good for you. And Brake Cleaner/Dremel/Wire brush to clean the surface prior to priming.

Do a little picking around the corroded spots, you may be surprised as to how much more corrosion/lifting paint you'll find. :(

Then a mix of half/half Flat and Gloss High Heat paint always worked well for me.I use Tremclad and do paint tests first just to see if I have to adjust the "shine".
