Looks like I'll be ordering my S in the next week or two but I do have a few questions...Need some enlightenment..

1. I use an electric vest when the going gets cold.. Is there a socket on the S to plug it in?? and if not.. what are you guys doing?

2. Is there a certain site or post that lists all the options for the S? Can someone point me to a URL? I hate to ask somebody to list them all...

3. I use a standard battery tender on my RS.. Does the S have a Gel battery? or standard?

4. If a bike is traveling East in the Texas Hill Country at 152 mph for 30 minutes, stops for 10 minute gas-up, then proceeds West at 142MPH for 10 more minutes, how many tickets will he accumulate from Officer Sanchez?

There is an accessory outlet on the left side of the bike like the RS. You need a special bmw charger for the bike and there is a weird sequence of plugging into bike, turning ignition on, plugging into ac, turning ignition off. Also , the charger is typically overpriced.The options are the esa, heated grips, low seat, alarm, navigation system bags tank bags, and centerstand.

Yes, but it's a 5 amp I believe. A couple of guys have disconnected it from the CAN BUs and hardwired it to the battery with an inline fuse that will handle greater loads.

ABS delete, heated grips, ESA. Jerry, do your self a favor and don't buy a bike without the ESA. It's freakin awesome! The fancy paint will cost extra. A center stand is a dealer add on.

AGM battery but the Battery Tender designed for the Gel will work (the Advanced Tender I believe it's called) but it only works direct to the battery. You need the charger specific to the S if you want to plug it into the accessory outlet.

a conventional charger works too

my bmw dealer explained : you must plug the charger with the ignition "ON" and then turn off the ignition, so the system recognizes the use of the plug and don't disconnect it !

haven't tried yet but seems logical

What catafish said. However, I hardwired an SAE lead to the battery terminals and use that to power my tankbag when I'm riding, and use it as the hookup for my charger when the bike sits. I had some difficulty when I first bought the bike when I hooked the charger up through the power port. Yes, it's the charger specified by BMW for that battery. The mechanic (I trust him) told me the best thing to do is hook the charger straight to the battery so I don't have to worry about the sequence.

When I bought my bike, I had the mechanic install the power adapter for the Canbus under the seat, where the tools would go if BMW gave you any. From there he ran the wires to the front of the bike, just under the battery cover. That's how I power the radar detector and GPS. When the bike powers on and off, so does the Passport and GPS.

As I mentioned earlier, I have an SAE plug that is hardwired via a fused link with the battery. That's where I pull power for the tankbag (charges my iPOD and cell phone) and could plug in a vest if I used one.

If you live by the "Tommy Weeks Theory" (those of you at the first THCR will remember this), NONE. You go full blast east, and when you pass Officer Sanchez, you'll be 2 miles down the road before he gets turned around. Once you are out of sight, jam on the brakes, and do a u-turn and go full blast west. By the time Officer Sanchez recognizes you and gets turned around, you'll be 4 miles away. Repeat until Officer Sanchez gives up.

Also, when they finally set up the roadblock in Leakey, TX, make sure you do a 140 MPH wheelstand between the squad cars and wave at the officers with their service revolvers out of their holsters.

Hmmmm. Well I have two BMW bikes with this battery and special charger, and it seems to be working fine without the special process off turning the bike on, plugging the charger, etc. I just plug it in with the bike off and the tender unplugged from the wall outlet, then plug the tender into the outlet. Can see the tender lights progessively go from red to yellow to green... then staying green. Have been on long overseas business trips and the bikes start fine, batteries very fresh.

Is the procedure a safety step, or the battery doesn't fully charge? Doesn't seem to be an issue using the tender as with older tenders/bikes.

I don't know about Officer Sanchez, but I've never had a problem keeping up with any sort of bike in my EC-120.

If you have the dealer install the centerstand, the yare going to have to cut away some of the bottom cover (the black piece).
Not too many options as of now. All have been mentioned here. Oh, GPS is also an option. Nice clean mount/location on top of the gas tank up front. The 2610 works very well. Two kinds of tank bags; a lower one for use with the GPS and the other a taller one.
There are others out there as well. Good luck!

seems that this method applies on 06' models or others with software updates only

btw i've never had to use any charger on my bikes, so your experiences outperforms mines ;-)
