Power Commander Question

4453 Views 26 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  Moss
I have read a number of threads on this forum and others regarding the benefits of a power commander, particularly on the K1200S. My question: Where can one buy a power commander for a 2006 K1200S? None of the online shops I have looked at have it available for my bike.

Thanks,

Bone

Been there. Done that. Save your money. Made ZERO difference.
Now I'm looking at the Power Commander.

IIRC a booster plug should only make a difference around temperature far away from 20°C or something. I have one installed but haven’t noticed a difference. That said I might notice a difference if I uninstall it. Idk.

Yeah, I installed it primarily to sort out the stalling at low revs, which is annoying me so much that I'm considering selling the (otherwise great) bike. And this is worst when cold. No idea how BMW would release a bike with such a patent design flaw. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

So. The Booster Plug made zero difference. The Plug & Play Power Commander is next.

As you have found K12's do not like traffic or city driving at all. The wiring to the injectors is in tight quarters and needs to be done carefully with all being bundled tightly to keep out of the way.
The random Power Surges scare the hell out of cars sometimes while splitting lanes. When the Red Sea parts I act as if I'm taking a race horse on a scenic trail.
GateKeeper-

I am very interested in the install. I saw a couple of youtube videos on the install, but unfortunately they were in German. Was it pretty straight forward>

I am making detailed videos on youtube to help people do their own work. basic tearing down k1200s/k1300s bodywork to install power commander 5 the best way to avoid dammaging the fuel rail feed nipple like i did as i went with DJ instructions also avoid disconnecting wires behind the fuel rail to the power commander, as i did as no room there and totally vlind.
i will offer video one to one how too's also to help those in need any time day or night.

with the help of 2 other guys we are making maps for k12/1300 to elimenate the low down surging and BBS that most of the oficial DJ maps for our bikes do not address, i will have a link to my youtube pages to inform for anyone interested,
Mark.

I'll be very interested in the maps, Mark. I'll be fitted a PC V to the 1300S HP when I'm in there doing the shims, changing the plugs and fitting a full Akra and modifying the air filters (sometime in the summer I hope). Eventually the plan is to fit the autotune and map switch so I can have 2 maps. Was surprised to find how limited the options for a map are - basically just a couple of different slip-ons with standard induction. I'll have a thorough dyno session but if you come up with a better starting point that what's available that would be great. Vice versa, I'll share mine when done.
I'll give you a shout to chat..

I'm also wondering about whether the throttle valves ever need adjusting and benefit from putting vacuum gauges on. I can see it'll be a bit of a faff for the K1300 - running it up to test it will need extended fuel pipes or some messing around to be able to get the pipes out if the tank is in the standard position. Does anyone do this and does it improve balance?

Looked into the booster plug?
Been there, done that. Cannot see ANY difference. Just coughed up for the Power Commander to see if that can fix the problem.
