Playing with numbers.

I rode a demo GSW last summer and was impressed so I looked up its weight and rated
horsepower to see how it compared to the GT; numbers per BMW's pubs.

2007 K1200GT weighs 635lbs, [email protected], 0.239HP/lb, 4.18lbs/HP, 96 [email protected] rpm.

2014 R1200GSW weighs 525lbs, [email protected], 0.238HP/lb, 4.20lbs/HP, [email protected] rpm.

2014 R1200GSW-ADV weighs 573lbs, [email protected], 0.218HP/lb, 4.58lbs/HP, [email protected] rpm.

I note that the power to weight ratio between the GSW and the GT is very similar. This was a surprise to me.

To add another comparison, my brother has a Ford Lightening he's proud of since it has some $40k worth of custom engine and etc work.
It weighs 4670lbs, 750HP, 0.161HP/lb and 6.23lbs/HP. With slicks its capable of 10.8s 1/4 mile times. Fun to ride in but power to weight
is quite a ways below the GT (and the GT was less$.)

Anyway, so is the GSW as quick as the GT?

Thanks for putting together the statistics.

I have no idea which bike is quicker (measured by 0-60 or 1/4 mile acceleration), and I have not ridden the new water buffalo models yet.

My seat of pants observations of my 08 K12GT and 09 R12GSA:

When cruising on the highway with the K12GT, cracking on the throttle results in smooth and terrifying acceleration to mind boggling speeds.

When cruising on the highway on the R12GSA, cracking on the throttle results in mind boggling vibration from those huge jugs and more sedate, but totally adequate acceleration to more reasonable speeds.

The GT is better for getting speeding tickets.

Not to leave out handling quickness, the GSA feels so light on it's feet (until it falls over), and the KGT feels like a fat pig of a sport bike that likes to go straight real fast.

Both bikes will stop really quickly. Until the ABS craps out.
Both bikes will trash their respective final drives and clutches if acceleration testing is overdone.
Both bikes are incredibly fun to ride.
