Just came back from our annual club ride to Death Valley. It was the first time I made this trip on the K-bike (it arrived a bit too late for last year's trip) and I knew I was going to have to see what it would do out there in the land of 5-mile straightaways and no one in sight. I ended up totally happy with its performance and comfort for the entire trip (1200± miles over 3 days), but my high-speed runs were the definite high point. Well into middle-age with a wife and a couple of kids still in school, I realize it was a pretty crazy thing to do, but I knew I had to see what real speed felt like. Unfortunately I dropped the GPS I had borrowed prior to the run and couldn't figure out how to zero the max speed indicator which read 164mph as a result of the drop (it read 129 before impact) so all I had to go on were some quick glances at the speedo, but it didn't take a whole lot of work or time to get it up past 170. No doubt the full ti Remus system, Evoluzione race air filters and a MRA race screen (perfect for tucking) all helped, and boy did it sound great with my chin right down on the tank, even with my isolating earphones plugged into my Valentine. The bike wasn't done at 170+ either, but I sure was. Not sure how much the actual speed lagged behind the speedo indication, but it was sure fast enough for me. Couldn't wipe the grin off my face for hours.

I feel your joy? Yes indeed, the S has a bit more than 170. Mine tags the rev limiter reading 178. Not bad considering this bike ( or at least mine) has a fairly accurate speedo. About 2% off according to the GPS.
