during the week-end.
Had to add some oil as the BC signalled me with <!>. That was already the second time during 8000 km so totally I added 500 ml of 15W-40 BMW. Looks like it takes around 100 ml each 1000 km( like BMW cars 15 years ago).
The average speed was around 160 km/h(100mph). Sometimes I maintained that speed during several hours non-stop at the air t =+23 C/26 C. No overload( I did not carry the side cases). But rare "shots" up to 240 km/h. Just not to asleep :))
Another strange thing - the BC showed fuel consumption of 5/5,3/5,7/6,2/6,5 and finally 6,8 litre per 100 km. I did not reset the trip meter after each re-fuelling and engaged cruise control a lot. But the reading is definitely wrong.
Rode in heavy rain for few hours. If the speed is higher than 80 km/h(50 mph) - no need in the rain gear.

Your post implies that the GTs are using oil...at a normal rate. I have to disagree. I changed my oil at 50 miles, 600 miles, then 3000 miles and never added oil between. After this past weekend, my GT now has 6,200 miles. I haven't needed to add oil for the last 3,200 miles. I will be changing the oil this week again, and then waiting until 12,000 miles. We'll see what happens in this next 6K miles stretch.

i would look into that as well
K bikes NEVER use oil.....
the Rs, on the other hand, ROUTINELY use a lot of oil.... forever

but.....
when a new KGT uses THAT much oil, something might very well be wrong
i'd let the dealer have a LONG look at your bike..... FOR FREE

Wouldn't say that K bikes never use oil - my 98 KRS has used about 1 to 1-1/2 quarts( depends on how it is ridden) every 6000 miles for the past 40,000 + miles. No smoke and decent fuel mileage but definitely use a little bit of oil.

Let's remember that this GT is not a traditional "K Bike", or "Flying Brick". BMW really should've come up with a new letter for these bikes with the entirely new 4-cylinder powerplant.

3200 miles(5000 km) is exactly the range when adding oil is not needed. My first BC signal appeared with 6000 km on the clock( means 5000 km after the 600 mi service).
So we will see your next 6K.
I do not claim as I believe all motors must eat some oil at high speed - it is just an info. Also I do not use synthetic oil. Another reason is that during the first service only minimum quantity of oil could be provided( for example they forgot to pour oil inside the filter etc). Still I try not to exceed 7000 rpm.
I am more concerned about fuel consumption figures. Do you reset BC after each trip/refuel/once a week or? I have never done it. Shall I?

I exceeded 7K RPMs leaving the dealer for the first time. :ricky Shall we chalk that up to different break-in philosophies and leave it at that? :)

FWIW, I do not use synthetic oils either. I am an avid oil changer. From now on, every 6K (or more) religiously.

Yes, I reset the BC at every fuel stop. I like to see how the mileage varies with my riding. My GT is ranging between 42 to 50 mpg. I don't know if those figures mean anything to you. I am very happy with them.

I had the same figures at the beginning. They correspond to 5,2 litre per 100 km more or less.
I will reset my BC and see. :))

Sorry to disagree, but none of the past 8 R model BMWs I've owned used oil to any extent.

The K1200R and now the GT don't seem to either.

I change my oil at 2500-2500 miles routinely and change to Syn at 6,000.

i'm happy to hear about your 8 Rs....
but, you are in the MINORITY on that one
and i've broken in my 4 Rs every way... from "by-the-book" to STOMPING on it from day one...
they all used oil

Interesting that you failed to read the entire post. Any oil lubricated engine will use some oil....I've been around this BMW Airhead, Oilhead, Brick and Slash4 (whatever) community since 1983 and just don't see that a properly serviced BMW, especially the opposed twins, are the Oil Burners you seem to be portraying them as.

I guess they, BMW, just built my '83 R100RS, '87R100RT, '84 R80RT, '99 R1100RT, '00 KLT, '00 RGS, '02 RRT, '02 RGSADV, '02KLT, '04RRT and '05 RRT so they were special not to use oil, while everybody else had bikes that did.

Again Sorry, but some of your bold statements I've read here just don't hold water
