What's the best mount available for a radar detector on our bike?

Also, thinking seriously about using the radar screamer - has anyone tried it?

Thanks...

I plan on doing the same: gps/radar/radar screamer. Am leaning towards the cyclegadgets mounting strut for the gps and radar. Am still not sure where I am going to mount the screamer. Let us know what you end up with and send pix. Thanks! Bong

Pirate is also working on his own mount in addition to the Z Teknic which looks good. He has pictures of the Z on his website. Before you get a screamer, take a look at the LED warning lights from Marc Parnes. It plugs directly into either an Escort or V1. I have mine velcro mounted just above the RID and it works great. It is obviously a visual alert rather than audible. It gets my attention even on sunny days. It's smaller than the Screamer and a cleaner look...and not as obnoxious.

Just my opinion but I find that an audible alert is the BEST. It's just too easy to miss a visual alert ( excpet the HARD system) when rocking down the road.

Ahhh. but have you seen or tried the LED...? Nice to have a lot of differing opinions so that we can then make the best choice. :)

I to use the LED warning lights from Marc Parnes and Love It.
You need to place it so it shines right in your eyes. ( to give you the Best heads up )

till we start seeing reasonably priced blue tooth helmet setups I'll stick with the Autocom and get the whole comunications package. Radar (audible), Intercom, Bike to bike, Tunes.
Works great at any speed.

James,

Just checked it out...I like it. It warns about using it at night though - is it an issue?

Sorry, Rider Information Display...just to the right of the speedo. I've got an O5 and the LED is pushed to the left, just where the radius of the speedo starts. The LED is about 1.5 inches wide but all the specs are on the website.

See ya.

I'm a HARD man

HARD system is the way to go, never let me down. I got one at the BMW MOA rally and is probably the best addition to a fast bike you can buy.

Just turn down the pot on the audible unit(V-1) to decrease the led intensity for night time usage

Radar detector mount for symmetry freaks

Techmount made me this custom mount which IMHO works and looks great. Plastic logo on triple clamp pops out to reveal threaded 10mm fine pitch shaft - I've since fitted a 1 1/2" stainless steel washer, painted black, under the mount. Cleans up nicely. Visibility to gauges unimpaired.

Is there a way to cover up the nut on the steering stem? I like the mount but looking at that nut makes it look a little unfinished to me.

I fixed mine onto the bottom of the oil cooler cowl, between the forks. Since I wanted the led in my sight line and everything subtle & out of the way, I took the instrument housing apart & drilled a 3mm hole in the top centre of the instrument housing, between the clock cowls.

Damn thing keeps going off on traffic lights and ped Xings though. Over here they use X band for vehicle approach speed and distance to adjust the signal timings.

I think I understand what you did but isn't there a problem with weather protection? Got any pictures of your installation...bracket for the detector, etc? I was going to do the remote stuff with Escort but it was to damn expensive.
