I am replacing the worn plastic bushings in my sloppy shifter lever for a set of bearings. I know this has been done a lot but I would like to share the parts I used. All of them from amazon.

MR140ZZ Regular bearings
MF140ZZ Flange bearings
Skate Speed Rings and Spacers


I used the following combination of bearings, speedrings and inox washers
Household hardware Font Wood Gear Metal


The 2 external bearings have Flange and the inner ones are regular. I am using the washers just to be sure in case the 4 bearings fail the lever will remain in place. The bolt is a 30mm M8 allen head. The washer on the left/external side is 16mm diameter while the right/internal side is 19mm.

When installing I will add some blue locktite on the bolt.

I will also replace the rod with this since mine has some play in it. After this I expect a very improved shifting in my bike.

How about a Road Test Report when you have a few miles on it?? Very nice writeup and pics, btw!! Thanks.

My K13S has two ball bearings in there. And the screw came loose last weekend on a 300 mi ride. Along with the screws on the footpeg lowering kit that left the shifter footpeg dangling at a 45° angle down. What a pain. Got everything tightened at lunch and locktighted when I got home.

My K13S has two ball bearings in there. And the screw came loose last weekend on a 300 mi ride. Along with the screws on the footpeg lowering kit that left the shifter footpeg dangling at a 45° angle down. What a pain. Got everything tightened at lunch and locktighted when I got home.
Hence, my longer bolt with a backing lock nut.

Also, with the backing nut, you don't have to wind in the front side so much, just light tension so the bearings/spacers aren't crushed.
Downside, you MAY get some oil filter interference, depending on the brand of oil filter you use. Some aftermarkets are a bit longer than BMW originals.

You are right!!!

removing stress from the bearings/spacers will be good!!! Definetely will use a longer bolt.

Sure!!!

I am still waiting form the rod... supposed to arrive next sunday. I will report back.

"I am using the washers just to be sure in case the 4 bearings fail the lever will remain in place." This was a SCCA safety requirement for ball rod ends when I worked tech years ago. Not sure about the probability of four bearings failing, but why not do it.

They are standard metric sizes.
I did mine years ago with 4 bearings, a standard M8 washer at the engine end, and a standard M8 washer at the bolt head.
No spacers. Four bearings are the same size as a new bush.
This is not rotating, it is just a guide for minimal movement, so you don't need fancy bearings. I think i ordered mine from eBay. I don't remember the bearing size.
