If you really want to shorten it, that shouldn't be a problem if you cut it in the middle and splice it back. IMHO, it is much easier to coil up the excess and cable tie it where it can't be seen or snagged. If you ever want to move it, you wont have to buy another cable. I coiled mine up close to the fuse box.

Oh really, why not??. There are just two leads that would need to be spliced. The audio leads come out of the pigtail that plugs in to the GPS and they wouldn't be involved. For tthat matter, if you cut it off, you could always just splice back what ever is needed with any 18 ga wire that you happened to have on hand.

I went ahead and cut it down to about 18", re soldered the fused lead and protected the joints with heat shrink tubing. It was a piece of cake.

Installed the Zumo, took the GT for and 80 mile test ride and everything works fine. :)

Thanks all for the input.
