Software Versions available for The BMW K1200S

In this page, I will try to keep you all updated of what Software that is available ! ( so this 'main' topic could be updated to get the latest out to you all)

You have all heard that a lot can be gained by doing an update of the software for the ECU (Engine Control Unit), But this is a thing which can only be done via a Computer that can 'talk' with your bike, sort of. And Your Dealer will have this. It is connected to your bike at the aft part under-seat area.
The Original Software of those first K1200S's where version 3.00, at least those for general purchase, and as You will understand this could be different on 'later' bikes..

You should be aware that some of these Software updates will reconed Mandatory, some not. Will try to get that going as well.
But be aware, and this is Important : BMW says that the ECU could maximum be updated thirteen - 13 - times, then the internal memory will be full. ( and to further make a new update, you will have to get yourself a brand new ECU)
*************************************************************************
Software Versions for The K1200S's ECU:
*************************************************************************
Version 3.00 :

This is the basic version on your bike upon purchase.

Version 4.01:

NOT mandatory; This version is said to get your RPM in a better shape in lower values. Actually only recommended for the throttleboby problem.
(Load time, appr. 50 mins)

N E W : Version 5.0:
With the development of the new Engine-software, BMW seems really to get hold of 'the jerk' in low revolutions! First test-trips with the 2006 model show a firm throttle acceptance from 1,500 rpm! This new Software/Engine-setup will be incorporated in all new bikes buildt after third quarter 2005. The BMW-Workshops were informed there would be produced an update CD with this software for the dealers PCs(august 19,2005). The CD's should arrive beginning next week at the dealers! The version number is 5.0 and the update will take 'a tight hour'.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 5.10 ??
I have been awaiting the Version 5.01, as it had been said it would replace Version 5.00.
__________________________________________________________________
..as a pre-answer and I think this question will rise, "How could see which Version is in My Bike?? "... well take a trip to that Dealer of yours...only he with his Computer can check this out.

Beneath, I add our Member: 'ManfredH' thread from this section to for the time be as a final (but I will try to keep this List updated)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
"ZFE" means "Zentrale Fahrzeugelektronik" (= central vehicle electronic).

Engine update with version K024-05-02-510 is only to be prgrammed if the release on the bike ("I_STUFE_HO" showed by the CT1 tester) is one on of the following:
K024-03-10-500
... -03-10-510
... -04-03-500
... -04-07-500
... -04-11-500
... -04-11-510
... -04-11-520
... -04-11-530

Hey Locus not to sound dumb but is there a simple way for me to check which version I have on my
two week old 1200s

Thx
Stripes...

your question is fair and I have to give the answer, if you have access to a BMW Workshop Computer, you can,.....this Computer will have to interogate your K1200S's 'brain' to tell the Computer ... what in their in your memory, my dear;)

well enough of funnies... You have to get Your dealer's to do it for you..sorry...

Krider12s, It's good to hear that the update is available in the U.S. I have to take my bike in for them to install a missing frame slider (wasn't installed during prep) and I will ask about the 5.1 update. I have been looking forward to getting it installed.

I'm in Houston, TX. I will post back with results in a couple of days.

I just got my bike back for brake issues and asked about the update. I actually asked
them when i took it in for the brakes if they could update the ECU it to fix the surging.
Was told that unless there was a very specific issue (not surging
apparently) they would not do it, so i'm interested if it helps others.

Best,

5.1 update

the new 5.1 update has made so much difference in my k12s that I HAVE NOTHING TO
COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYMORE. before I had to use my riding experience to make it do
what I wanted it to . now I just have to ask and it will do it. sitting in rush hr. traffic and
want to move forward 20 feet just let out the cluch not touching the trottle and it will
move up 20 feet. In first gear of course. it will pull hard and clean in 4th from 1500
rpm. It starts quicker shifts smoother and all I have to do is ride it. SO IF YOUR
DEALER WILL NOT DO IT. BRING IT TO CHARLOTTE N.C. THEY WILL. its worth the
trip.

the software update is not a recall but is part of the fix to jitters and rough engine. it is free of charge under warranty. tell the dealer you will report to BMW and see the face changes. BMW is putting a lot of $$$ to get the fixes out to all 05 bikes. BTW all gets better, also the gearshift takes advantage of the smoothness in accelleration. where there is no change is in the cutoff that is still reaccellerates 2 cyl only at 2700rpm

Does anyone know what the service bulletin number recommended to do the update for the soft ware version 8.0 or 8.1 is,as i am still running the original 3.0 version that came out with the bike in 2005,my bike is the k1200s,as i will be calling at my dealer later to do the software update and it would be easier for me to state the number of the bulletin. Also would anyone know if this is the best software to update into a 2005 k1200s. thanks.
