Okay - The inevitable just happened yesterday... I got a speeding ticket.
I knew it would happen, I was just hoping it would have been a little longer before I got one, but to be fair to the cop, I honestly deserved it.

Anybody else had this little reality check, too??

Valentine 1 saves me most every time I go out.. It's really easy to be doing 65 in 45, and in NJ that's a 4 pointer.. and 65 in a 45 on a rice backroad really isn't tearing it up.

If you want to try and fight the ticket, then I suggest you check out http://www.ticketassassin.com/

If you don't feel like fighting, then I suggest traffic school. I'm not sure if sacramento allows online traffic school though, but that is the way to go, which is much more convenient.

My suggestion is try and fight the ticket.

Sorry to hear that Jeff,.... but need some details!???

No tickets on the K-R......yet, but then I keep it under 140....most of the time ;)

Over the last two years I've been tagged once and it was on the LT... in one of those "zero tolerance" enforcement efforts .

I have an Escort 8500 on the LT and it has been an insurance premium saver. Even for that one ticket
the RD picked up the signal and I was able to shed about 15 mph before he got a lock. Probably cut the ticket cost in half and kept me out of the dreaded "more than 20 over" headache.

Maybe we should get together next NorCal tech-session and install radar detectors on the new K's . I've got my power cord, rain box, detector and HARD transmitter ready to go.

Let me know if you're "in" and I'll make sure to give you a heads-up.

How refreshing to read about someone who got a ticket and says they deserved it. I don't remember ever reading that before. Usually, the post is filled with asinine arguments as to why the guy shouldn't have gotten it, or why it's invalid, followed by a dozen other posts demeaning to police officers in general.

I can understand the impetus to fight speeding tickets because they're expensive and can have long-lasting repercussions; but still, my hat's off to Jet-A.

Along these same lines, I was out riding Sunday doing just five over the speed limit. Easily with the flow of traffic. I hit a small bump in the road that jarred me a bit and my wrist rolled on some speed inadvertently. now I was doing about 12 over, looked up and saw a police car coming at me from the opposite direction. I about s__t myself. Can't afford another ticket. Came home and told the wife about how I really needed a radar detector. She eyed me coolly and said if I just rode the speed limit none of this would happen. Sheesh, I'm going to have to wear her down again just like I did before I bought the bike.

Howdy jd,

I assume it's a $$ thing with the "better half". Suggest you keep your eye out in the classifieds for a used one. I did and got good price on one.

It's always a money thing. We were born poor. She hasn't gotten used to spending money yet. Which means there is always plenty for my hobbies.

After two tickets in three months last year my wife was all for me getting a radar detector. She's a fairly swift rider herself and knows I'm not gonna ride the speed limit very often.

ticket

You're not alone Jet-A....I got one last Friday on the DELMAVA Penn just going into VA from Maryland on Route 13. The new limit of 45mph was just so unreasonable to me at the time so I kept on cruising at 60mph.....I was so confident that I even don't run with my V-1 in VA BUT...Friday I got caught...$131 to the Commonwealth of VA. Not sure if Florida speaks with Virginia on the points thing though...

Thanks for the support...

Thanks for the responses and support.

Mr. Turner, I will take you up on that offer to install a radar detector on one of the Tech Days. Let me know when the next one is.

And now for the details:
I was going from Sacramento to Davis and I was getting frustrated by being around all of the other cage drivers who like to tailgate, regardless of what you're driving or riding. So I started hunting for the "bubble" (an area away from the packs of cage drivers). I began to do that kind of "slalom passing" of vehicles at a fairly wholesale rate. I failed to check my six enough times to verify that I was alone. I checked behind me when I finally found my bubble and I thought I was seeing the single headlight from what I thought was another Harley rider that I recently passed. I slowed down to allow him to catch up in the bubble I had found...

Well... It was a Harley alright... A Davis P.D. Harley to be more precise.

The officer started off on a bit of a bad note, but that's expected. He had to do a "spirited" pace to catch up to me, but I have no idea of how far back he was from me when this whole episode started. He said he had been following me from W. Sacramento and he pulled me over in Davis. Anyway, he realized I wasn't going to be an a$$, so we started talking about the K12S. Too bad he couldn't have just let me go with a warning. That would have been good enough for me to tone it down... For a while.

I wear all the gear, regardless of heat of day. My saying is, "Dress for the crash, not the ride". What I don't need is to advance my chances on the crash, you know?

So in the end, I deserved the ticket, but I REALLY would have preferred the warning.

I used to get them all the time. Then I got the V1. Then I got a ticket for 99 in a 70 by an AIRPLANE!!! Couldn't talk my way out of that one either, very expensive.

Now I have a badge ;) and when I"m in the car they just wave. I'm waiting to see if the badge will work when I get nabbed on the bike! I'm wired for the radar dector already, just need to get the unit.

Sorry to hear about your plight. You can beat it if you try but it will cost $$$.

Good Luck,

Gravity

Being age 24 my insurance rates are much more volatile than most of yours. I have a traffic lawyer who I use for $300USD per incident, and she has NEVER let me down. Amazingly enough, no tickets on the K12S yet thanks to PiratesLair radar mount and Valentine 1 radar detector. :)

Howdy Pete,
Even if they don't talk, the insurance companies may be monitoring. One thing you can do is hire an attorney to plead for you, I know you may think this is expensive, but it's pretty common and not too expensive. Part of the procedure to get you a "probation" where if you stay clear of violations for ~6 months, or so, the whole thing is like it never happened.

You'll probably receive a letter(s) from attorneys on this.

Good luck.
