Australian MotoGP rider Caser Stoner has set a lap record in the first practice session at the year's Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island in Victoria.

The 22-year-old Ducati racer, who relinquished his world title to Italian Valentino Rossi in Japan last weekend, clocked a blistering one minute and 30.094 seconds on his 14th lap.

BMW won't be running in MotoGP, they will be running in World Superbike.

Casey got pole this afternoon with a new lap record in the 1:28s.

He has had 3 DNFs in the last five rounds which is what relinquished his lead in the championship to Valentino and you can see when he is riding that Duck that he is really having to ring the neck off it to stay in front.

God speed to him for tomorrow to win his home round.
