. . . with my riding buddy. I of course was on the 12S, he on his soon to be sub 11 sec. in the quarter Road Glide. Well, about 5 customers and all the sales people came out to oooh and ahhh the 12S, which I thought was interesting for the HD crowd. There was genuine interest and quite a bit of knowledge about the 12S among the HD sales people. I think I was also a curiosity item as well in that what's that old guy doing riding a sport bike?

Same Here...

John,
I experience the same thing at the HD dealership nearby. I go there when they have the Open House affairs. Not only the sales people but also some customers who actually have BMW bikes approach me. Also worked the other way around when I have my V Rods.
Motorcyclists are great folks and appreciate these diverse machines for what they are.

HD riders and their BMW counterparts

A friend of mine put his k12s on consignment sale at the local HD dealer(Edison NJ) and before they put it on the floor 3 of the salesmen wanted to ride the k12s. I have to tell ya they were in awe of this bike! The Buell salesman came back with a huge grin, but had to throw in that the bike was as long as a battleship, I guess he is just used to the very short wheelbase of the Buells. But the other 2 guys were in their words very impressed and couldnt believe how technologically advanced the k12s was. Alot of HD riders have a good amount of respect for BMW riders because they know most BMW riders actually ride and log up the miles.

I've gotten similar responses from the Harley guys..in spite of what they ride (I'll never understand that).., it seems they are very knowledgeable about BMWs and usually impressed by them unlike the Jap sportbike guys which usually snub their noses at you ... until you smoke them through some twisties....

I think it's because these days.. many if not most of the Harley guys make big bucks and have multiple bikes ..
