Do all of the K100s have a thrust washer between the engine output shaft and the clutch carrier?

I am working on a 1985 K100 (my first K-bike).
Due to a clutch issue, I am doing a disassembly/inspection on the entire clutch system.
So far, I have found what I believe to be the problem but I am not sure about the thrust washer as I did not find one in this bike.

Anyway I think the OP refers to the one behind the clutch carrier, I can't find that extra one I have somewhere for a pic, but that would be No.10 on the diagram. Interesting there is two listed, one is 1 mm, the other 1.25 mm. Certainly has to be there.



But this post made me learn how to swipe diagrams off the parts fiche and post them.Cool...! :thumb:

H96669 is correct.
My inquiry is about #10 in the drawing.
So, the original question is still unanswered. (and creates a couple more...)
Since mine is a 1985 is it considered an early bike which is not supposed to have one?
If it is supposed to be there, do I need the 1mm or the 1.25mm.

I have the flanged compression washer.

I will happily elaborate on the clutch saga once I am certain that I have truely solved the issue.

I did own an early K100RS, one of the first ones in Vancouver and certainly the first in Victoria BC. It did have the thrust washer between the carrier and the engine. They tend to stay stuck to the carrier from the oil between the parts, so may be hard to see, but you seem sure that it is missing.

Don't know what to say about the different thicknesses, them thrust washers are usually to take off play/wear between components. Maybe get a deflection gauge and check for play without the washer in place, then do the same with the different washers and see what happens.At this time last year I could have done a few measurements on my bike out of curiosity. :confused:

I fail to see how the .25 mm difference would affect much of anything. Could it be to back up the carrier a bit in case of a wear groove from the seal, thus giving a new surface for that seal to run on, or slightly more compression to the rear O-ring.

But I went and checked the K75 parts fiche, washer is shown but not listed, could your bike have been changed around some? There may be a part number on that carrier, if there is maybe go in Max's parts fiche and do some referencing by punching that number into the parts finder, would tell you what it is coming from. :confused:

But....tell us about that clutch problem, I have a feeling that it may be all related.

All K100-K1200s have the thrust washer. They'll knock quite loudly without it. No K75 had them

BMW said (roughly) to: "measure the original and replace with one of equal thickness". Hard to do if it's missing. However, I've not seen a 1.25mm washer in any K-Bike I've had apart.
