As the rains set in and our riding season is rapidly winding down, I start to think ahead to next year. We have this new on-line community and with that a fresh start. What we need now is a plan of action to put together a rally or ride in the NW. It remains to be seen how many of the old membership are still participating in this new community. I would just like to say hello and ask a question. Who would be interested in getting together in 06 for a NW rally or ride?

I am xlr8r(Mark)

I live in Tacoma.

I ride an 05 K1200s Bumblebee

Please tell us who you are and where you live.

Would you be interested in participating in an informal gathering next year in the NW? To start, I envision a planned ride with a designated meeting spot and a known destination. It could be an overnight to Whistler or the Oregon coast or a day ride to Mt. St. Helens, etc.

Anything is possible.

This would be Spring/06

NW Ride

Ron L ( LVMYKS ) here in Kent WA 03 KRS
I would be interested in doing something. My wife and I are in a Car Club, and we do planned drives. This would be fun to put something together over the winter and see it come around next summer 06.

Count me in and maybe a friend or two also.

Also a riding buddy of Ron L.

Sounds like a weekend overnight North Cascade ride might be an idea judging from the location of everyone.
Mt. Saint Helens might be a little far for someone up north near the Canadian border and Whistler a little far for us down south. The Cascade Loop might fairly central even for anyone coming from the east.

I like the idea of a Cascade loop run.

Possibly, we could meet in Leavenworth on a Friday afternoon and check in to a hotel for Friday night. The ride would kick off on Saturday morning with a route that brings us back to Leavenworth for Saturday night. Sunday would be the ride home.

Of course, any other ideas are welcome.

In putting this together I'm thinking more about an event that gets planned during a timeframe of good or better weather. I think if we put a date on the calendar that had more chance of rain than shine it might not get the best response.

Around here that means summer or fall. We could get lucky in the spring but not likely.

I'm hoping enough people could plan ahead and commit to turn out for a ride that is happening on a date certain.

Two years ago a few of us rode up Steven's Pass on a Saturday morning to Leavenworth. We had lunch there, walked around a bit and headed to Winthrop where we stayed for the night just a mile outside of town. The following morning we returned home on the North Cascade Highway. The complete trip was a perfect weekend ride with enough time for lunch, rest breaks/road side site seeing & picture taking. I will say however, each morning was an early start and we were on the bikes most of the time each day. But hey, the plan was to do some riding anyway and it was definitely beautiful scenery.
Just another thought to throw around.
P.S. Keep in mind this is definitely a mid summer ride. We hit snow going over Steven’s Pass the first week in June and a down pour after we left Leavenworth, but it quickly cleared up.

I was thinking of a ride very much like that.

Those from the East and South of Seattle could ride over Blewitt pass on US 97 and those from the West and North of Seattle could come over Stevens Pass on US 2.

Both rides would meet in Leavenworth for the night and from there do the North Cascades.

I'll try to get this better organized in the coming months and keep it posted in this thread.

Does anyone want to spearhead the US 2 (Stevens) route and get interest in that leg?

I will be the focal point for the US 97 (Blewitt) leg and try to organize a meeting spot for those that want to ride with me.

If anyone is familiar with Destination Highways, the road we're talking about in the North Cascades is the number 1, highest rated road in the state.

Although it's less convenient for some, the other choice would be a "volcano run". With that, we could hit the 2, 3 and 4th highest rated motorcycle roads in the state as rated by Destination Highways. Those are all in the same area around Mt. St. Helens.

Any more thoughts?

Hey everyone, I'm in the Bellevue area. I picked up a blue '05 K1200S last September and would love to meet up for a ride before it gets too cold. I also have that book, "Destination Highways" and it really shows a couple of good routes. Any ideas where we should check out yet? :)
