After several phone calls and many email questions to Garmin I would like summarize what I have found out and ask if anybody has different info to please set me straight.
In comparing the 2730 to the 2610 regarding GPS functionality and capability only, ie not the MP3, XM Radio , etc capability of the 2730 I have found some disturbing info. I bought the 2730 for the ability to store Points Of Interest (POI's). I wanted to store the Harley dealers, BMW dealers and the National Park Service facilities.
The first thing I found was that the 2730 DOES NOT display on the map screen any POI's, only favorites/waypoints. So there is no visual mapping difference between the 2730 and 2610 regarding being limited to 500 waypoints-favorites. A real bummer to me because while riding I wanted to SEE what POI's were around me on the map view. I know the POI's can be displayed in the iconic form as miles to POI's.
Next I found out that favorites-waypoints CANNOT be sorted 'By Name' ie alphabetically, another bummer when trying to see what is stored in your unit and have some idea of what you're looking for. I also understand that you can 'search' favorites but that is not an alphabetical listing like the 2610 had.
Next I found that while traveling either on a route or not, you have no numbered mileage scale on a black triangle.
Next to mark a place the 2610 did it in sequential numbers starting with 001 by just holding down a button and pressing 'yes', but the 2730 names the point which does not as easily let me know the route I took.
Has anyone done a fictional comparison between the units? Anybody want to buy a near new 2730? I bought the 2730 to load and SEE my 1381 POI's, I don't like the marking process at all, I don't like that you can't sort by name your waypoints/favorites and I especially don't like not seeing a map scale. I can't believe I ate the whole thing!!!!

Nope. Have to turn it in to the insurance company since it was damaged during my accident.
