I am mounting a Zumo 550 and the XM antenna on my 07 GT. I am using the factory mount for the GPS. Do any of you have ideas on where and how to mount the antenna? Someone suggested a RAM plate that goes under the GPS cradle but I haven't been able to locate it. Any suggestions?

I spoke to Genna at GadGadgetGuy.net and used his monkey bar setup for the GT. Lot nicer looking than a RAM mount and more secure.
I ended up with three of his mounting platforms.

One of his plates mounts the Zumo cradle in the middle.

The second plate has on of his extensions on it and a short bar holding the plate over near the brake fluid side on the handlebars. I put two holes in that one and screwed them into the bottom where two threaded holes are on the GXM-30 XM radio antenna. I could have used the steel magnetic mounting plate, but I don't move it around as the car has a XM radio. More secure too. The excess wire is wrapped up in a roll and attached under the Zumo cradle and is out of site. All wiring is zip-tied down.

The third plate of his holds the radar detector (same extension an a 3" bar as the right bar setup). He suggested a Garmin Quick Release mount to use with it so I could slip the detector off quickly in case of rain or moteling.

I added some little chrome buttons to cover up the hex-head screws (local Harley shop). Installation look very clean and not cheapy looking (Genna's stuff ain't cheap either! It's made by the same machining company that does the Brembo brakes).

Sorry, I don't do pictures, but he does have some photos on his site on different setups.

I mounted mine on the air deflector above the dash. I cut out a square piece of metal that I painted flat black to match the dash. Used velcro to mount the plate to the air deflector. The magnet in the antenna holds it to the plate. Sorry, my bike is in the shop so can't get a picture. The antenna leans slightly forward, but the only time I have experienced a loss of signal is when the bile is leaned over in the twisties.

I have posted this over in the GT forum, I use the gadget guy mount, it rocks. I went with a long shaft that let me put the GXM-30 on the right and my V1 on the left.

I know this is an old thread but I found that you can mount the garmin xm antenna to the underside of the plastic body panel covering the battery. I get good signal and it is completely hidden.

If you're mounting your GXM 30 to the BMW version of the 550, it will not work.

I just found this out the hard way.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Sorry for the issues & happy to help. Unfortunately the BMW Version of
the Zumo 550 is not XM capable.
So sorry for the wrong info as our standard Zumo 550 is XM capable.

We do apologize for any inconvenience.

Happy New Years!
Needless to say, I am now a less than satisfied customer :)

Mine's on a Big Mak shelf. I mounted it by making a template with paper (put it under the GXM and punch two holes where the screws go) and used said template to drill holes in the shelf.

Don't buy a mount. Remove your windshield and the black plastic plate under. I mounted mine there using one screw and the plate that came with the ant. Hid it on my LT, RT, GS and now my GT. Works fine. You don't need to look at that ugly ant. Save your money.

How about a photo of your install?

Hide Antenna

Sorry I have been out of town and tonight the bike is in the trailer for a trip to dealer tomorrow. I will take a picture this week end and post it. I used the metal plate that came with antenna and mounted it under the the plastic plate using one existing OEM screw. After removing the windshield metal X brace and the air flow plate pull the two pins from the windshield lifting arms and remove the plastic cover that the arms go through. When mounting the antenna stay clear (aft) of the black metal X brace. Just try to position it as far from metal as possible as metal will block the signal. On my LT it was double backed tape to the head light shelf. Once in a blue moon at just the right angle from sat. you may briefly loose a signal.

Antenna Mounting Under Plastic

Pictures as promised. Keep in mind I have a tall windshield, so I ride in the down position.
The metal X brace is mostly below the antenna. I am not sure how the reception is in the up position.
