Anyone had to modify a 30mm socket for the clutch hub? What was your o.d. measurement?

I did this recently however I just brought the socke and diaphragm / bearing holder into the machine shop. Problem is not all sockets are created equal. My machinist had to tru the stock first before turning to the correct dimension. The flats in relation to the outside dimension varied considerably. If you just turned to the proper outer dimension without checking how true the flats were to the outer dimension you would have issues.

I would not use an impact driver. Buy the clutch holding tool and do it right.

If you don't have access to a lathe, its possible to wrap electrical tape around a suitable smaller socket until you get the correct OD. I believe the issue is the M30 nut holding the basket on means that most sockets have a larger OD, hence the need to machine down.

correct re impact sockets, you risk shattering a chromium socket using an impact rattle gun with all the risks that that entails.

I took an impact socket and, using a grinding wheel, ground it (around) until it fit. Where are you located? I can send it to you if you want. I also have the clutch wrench tool and the locking tool. Happy to share them
