Picked up a v.low mileage K1200S 2007 in Malaysia. Been taking time working front to back.

I checked recall notices which showed issues with cracks in the rear-wheel flange. Unfortunately my bike has the same issues.

I have a copy of the repair manual but it doesn't show (or I can't see) how to remove/replace the flange.

Anyone out there with detail and/or experience, hints/tips?

Much appreciated!

The five lug flanges were recalled world-wide. Check the VIN with a local dealer. Mandated recalls, at least in the U.S, Australia & etc., don't expire. They went from a relatively thick aluminium version to a thinner steel version.

Yes this is a world wide recall. If you google it you will find entries from Australia, Canada, Europe etc. It is a heat shrink fit. Takes some skills. I can not find a chapter in my service manual for it. I do remember looking in K13 section I will try there.

Under recall warranty, the dealer will not hand you a replacement flange. They do the job for you, parts & labour, and bill BMW for the pleasure. Unless, of course, you know the service manager's weakness.

I would let the dealer do this as the work should be warrantied. Also, if this job has not been done I suspect there are other outstanding recalls on the bike. Possibly the fuel tank outlet flange and some software items.

A magnet will reveal all. ;)

That's what I said in post #2. It bears repeating for some, however.

Most cracking of the original aluminium flanges was attributed (by a BMWNA technical rep I spoke to off the record at a dealer body meeting) to overtorquing of the T50 Torx wheel lugs and brake disc mount area - still, they should not have.
