First time since 2002 without a K bike

I've had a K bike in my garage since October of 2002 when I acquired a 1992 BMW K1. That unusual but fun bike gave way in 2006 to an almost new 2004 K1200RS "Zebra" with a little over 1K miles on the odo. In the Spring of 2008 I bought a 2006 K1200S "bumblebee" that lasted the longest until I traded it for a 2016 K1300S Motorsport with a little over 5K on its odo.

I've loved BMW K bikes since the first because they always fulfilled my need for speed my RT wasn't able to satisfy.

Earlier this year I participated in a tour of Patagonia riding a rented GSA and the experience ended up being one of a lifetime. It was a guided tour that was grueling and challenged every bit of me both physically and mentally. 3 1/2 weeks later I returned home and felt that need for speed so out comes the Motorsport and off I go.

About ten miles down the road I ask myself WTF am I doing with this bike? After he South American adventure it seemed that speed/fast curvy roads on it no longer mattered. I mean really, how could I ever surpass the journey I'd just experienced? The answer came back as "you can't."

After some soul searching I realized there was more to it than that. Truth is I never really bonded with the Motorsport as evidenced by the 1700 miles I'd ridden it in 2+ years. I LOVED the Bumblebee but in time I yearned for a newer K bike with the refinements the early model K12S lacked. To be honest I later felt the K12S had more cajone's than the K13S but my butt-o-meter isn't calibrated for a more precise opinion.

That said, I arranged to bring the Motorsport to BMW of Denver (a fantastic dealership!) where I'd bought it on consignment and then placed it on consignment once again. It lasted four days when it was bought by a regular client who tends to buy a lot of bikes from them. I later inquired as to if it went to a good home and was told yes, it went to a gent in his 50's who appreciates the brand and this model in particular. I was told that when he saw it on their showroom floor he said "Well, I didn't come in here to buy a bike but it looks like I just did!"

After owning 2 Ducati's and 2 BMW's I'm now down to the GSA. I still have two Sargent seats for sale and one of them has the pod set up. I'm not mentioning the seats as the root cause for this thread, just that I'd like the seats to move onto someone who could use them.

I'll still lurk here and cheer all y'all on!

Be well, ride safe!

I used to have a KTM 1190R "adventure bike". Took some trips, but eventually sold it. Just can't deliver like 1300S bikes. The 1300S bikes have to pass up a lot of "what might be up that shitty gravel road...?" but I get over it and twist the throttle for more sights.

Whatever brings a smile is the correct path, and it sounds like you are there, nice work.

My roots are in DP/old trail bikes. I left that type in '75 when I bought a used Kawasaki Mach III but never lost my love for what was then known as a "DP" or dual purpose motorcycle. For what it's worth, I'm also an alpine skier and am trending towards giving that up. I've skied all over the Rocky Mountain region and have skied some runs where a parachute should have been issued once you got off the lift. I have nothing to prove. Skiing and motorcycling are my passions. I can ski for about four months out of the year but can ride all twelve months. I'll miss the K bike and will give all my "love" to my GSA as long as I can.
