It was just a matter of time, since all their other boxers already have the 1300 motor.

Posting here b/c the R1250RS I rode is the closest replacement bike to the K1200S/K1300S I've thus far ridden:

Inevitably it's going to have BMWs retarded new electronic interface for everything, including the throttle, so you can dial in the bike's moods or something.

BMW rates it at: 145HP, 110 lb.*ft. of torque

It looks like it Tops out at ~150mph - gearing limited.

So it has the variable valve timing also found on the R1250RS (ShiftCam). Two cam lobes, on or off; not infinitely variable. "VTech Yo"

I wonder what the R1250RS enthusiasts are going to say

I think he stated it was true for the "sport" configuration; something like that. I'd like BMW to make a K1000S using the s1000rr motor weighing closer to 400lbs. than 500lbs.

This utuber guy seems to go pretty in depth on more technical details (straight cut vs helical cut transmission, shorter stroke, etc.) vs the prior 1250

Re. the luggage question, the R1250RS was like that too. The Sport version, which is the stripped down version, has no passenger pegs and a solo seat, and is incompatible with BMW luggage. In the US we only seem to get the Sport version and the fully loaded version. IIRC MSRP's were like $16.5k and $22K, a big difference.

. . . The Sport version . . . is incompatible with BMW luggage. . . .
What makes the Sport version incompatible with luggage? Is the suspension or exhaust in the way or something? I thought the mounting hardware could be very easily and directly installed - just like the other versions. The brackets and saddlebags could be purchased separately.

Disclaimer that this is from memory. A friend wanted a R1250RS with the solo seat from the Sport, but also wanted BMW luggage. It's those 2 specific items that are incompatible. Starting from a Sport, I believe the seat had to be changed to the dual seat, the frameworks that hold the pillion pegs added, then the luggage mounts added. So yes it is all bolt-on, but not inexpensive.

In the end he bought the fully loaded R1250RS, and went with the Shad luggage. It's bigger than he BMW luggage and looks pretty nice. He also put on a tidy tail and had a local upholstery shop make something that looks like a solo seat.

....Now back to discussing the R1300RS
