it should not be a problem, the bmskp is a latter version ECU, it is fully compatible and some say the preferred ECU.

Heading to the UP Thursday, to pick up granddaughter from orientation at that other university in Marquette. Can't convince her to go to the real university just a little farther away.

 

I noticed the part numbers are the same.I am not going to be a NMU basher, but I am student at the real school

 

Used ones are VIN encoded, don't buy a used one unless you want a nightmare.

 

Looking at this thread and the other, I just gotta ask... why are you pursuing this upgrade? To get TPM? There are a couple of good aftermarket solutions available for a fraction of the cost and trouble. Or maybe you have another goal in mind, just wondering...

 

My 07 KS came with a BMSK. I had stalling and bucking issues and the ECU was replaced with a BMSKP.

 

I have low speed jerky throttle response, more so when hot. I have been noticing it more since I have been in Texas.


I already have the tpm hardware installed- just waiting on the appointment next week for the software.

 

My problem was more than a low speed issue. I would pull out from a stop quickly, but not like in a crazy man, and the bike would hit 7K rpm (1st gear) then suddenly drop to 3k rpm and then suddenly race back up to 7k rpm. This all happened within 2 seconds. It would almost throw you off the bike. The first time I took it to the dealer, they could find nothing wrong. *&*&^&^&(*(&*&+^YIUYIT%*& I took it back and told them again how to repeat the problem and then they got it. I had to talk to BMWNA about the safety of the bike. Anyway, I got it back with the new ECU and it was fine.
Since then, I had a PCIII installed and the bike has not had any problems.

 

I wonder if anyone knows what the actual difference is between the K and K-P ECUs? The latter did seem to fix the fueling issues and I would assume that there is some hardware difference due to the different model designation. Interesting that a software change wasn't adequate and a hardware change was apparently required, I'd be curious to know what that was...
