Someone wanted the yellow ones before I mounted them. Color doesn't matter too much to me, really. (There's one more yellow and a maybe a glossy black) This color makes the bike look like a Triumph Triple. I'm cleaning and bleeding the brakes. More pics to come.

Went around the block...

First impression- I'd love to tell you there's a HUGE and IMMEDIATE DIFFERENCE, with incredible NEWFOUND AGILITY. That I was able to TRANSITION WITH EASE, that I had INCREASED FEEDBACK, BETTER BRAKING, BETTER ACCELERATION, AND MORE GAS MILEAGE. :teeth

But to tell the truth, it's hard to tell a big difference from 30-60 mph. Which makes sense, since the gyro effect increases with speed. So far, I'm generally underwhelmed, although on a quick lap around a local road with a switchback, it does seem to transition a bit more smoothly at about 60-65 mph.

More details later...

Here's a wider shot of the brake MC...

JCW, how much better was the FUEL MILEAGE? :rotf:

JCW,

So how much weight have you dropped from the bike. You know it is starting to take the shape of a Speed Triple. It needs a tail section and a front fairing now.

You know, Ken Zeller has a guy that ports the heads of K motor. He was claiming gains of up to 15HP depending on the level of mods. So when are you going to get a Power Commander to complete it's transformation.

Cheers

Jewilson, did you forget this thread? You posted on it...

Douglas ended up losing 3 horsepower for $2800. So, NO, they're not touching my head. At least until I hear what happened.

I'm good enough at throwing away money. I don't ned help doing it. :teeth

I'm more about weight anyway. More power stresses engine parts, transmission parts. Besides, the bike begs for more suspension/less weight at the track than more power.

Less weight allows everything to work better, suspension, acceleration, braking. I'm under 500 pounds. How much, I'll have to get it weighed again.

IMHO, I'd rather have the stock computer edited than a piggyback computer. If it never becomes available, I'm OK for now with the stock fueling.

I keep coming back and looking. The wheels look killa.

Man, that bike is mean! :)

R discs suck. Mine are pitting!?!? And I notice they are not Brembo.

S really got the nice braking system. Their discs are stamped brembo.

I'm either gonna break down and use the braking rotors or give the Alth guys a call again.

August everyone in Europe is off, correct? :(

Shouldn't be... I'm not... :wtf:

What were your impressions of the brake MC?

Some slightly harder riding today. But I'm taking it fairly easily for about 100 miles to make sure the new tires have scrubbed off the slick finish.

First the tires- Super smooth turn-in. Great grip so far. Had a slightly hairy moment accelerating out of a lean when the brain forgot about the TAKE IT EASY part. I'm not gonna drop the rear any. It's good where it is, which is higher than sandbar's plates. Sidestand COMPLETELY useless now.

IMO, this bike was born to have a 190 rear. Not 180. Too heavy, too powerful.

The wheels- I'm not sure if it's the tires or the wheels, but turn in is spot on. Transitions were much less effort. Instead of fighting the bars and muscling it into a transition with opposite lock, it just requires light input now. This I'm sure the wheels are helping tremendously. Acceleration is as always brilliant, no need for more here (at least not at my skill level on a track). Braking is slowly getting better, but I feel I need road/race pads and new discs to really reap the benefits of the wheels and new MC.

Definitely better, but the $3000+ price tag is ONLY worth it if those last few seconds on the track really mean that much to you OR you split the cost between the AESTHETICS and PERFORMANCE improvements. (and even then... :dunno: )

Oh and, macman, fuel mileage has been checking in at about 12 mpg. :wtf: :teeth

Awesome! :) Would be nice to compare your bike to my bike, especially when you're happy with the whole package (brake disks, pads, etc). :teeth

You know I never read that whole thread till you pointed it out. I'm glad you did as I was planning on having the ECU software upgraded, now I don't know that such a good idea.

The bike is running great now that I yanked of the 02 simulator. It still has a drifting idle which is not that big of a deal. Also I get some very loud pops when deaccelerting. I believe that has to do with the way BMW chose to turns off the injectors in the earler versions of software.

Maybe it's best to leave well enough alone.

Cheers

The loud pops are from the secondary air injection system. I've talked about it a lot but have never gotten around to writing it up.

Since you've had the air cleaner off, you might remember a hose from the left side of the box to the valve cover. Plug or disconnect this hose and the popping goes away.

Since I removed it, I have never had a single pop on decel.

Right now, I think your "criteria" for happiness is at a higher level than mine.

I have not put the high speed miles in that you have yet.

Soon hopefully.

Until recently, I was normaly used the BMWK1200S forum. However, it seems there is more happening here, I still check in.

JCW,

What I had heard and have no proof is that the exhaust popping, mine could be considered a backfire cause was the algorithm that BMW used to turn on and off the injectors. Like I said I have no proof that the popping isn't caused by recirculating charge from the air box. So next time remove the A-box I'll plug that connection see how it goes.

Cheers

Indeed, but I've not done as extensive modifications as you have. :)
